Abstract

This paper explores teachers’ beliefs in English teaching for young learners based on International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programe (IB PYP) and examines the interplay their beliefs on instructional practices. The researchers utilize a qualitative method and case study as a research design. Three English teachers at elementary school that implementing IB PYP in Surakarta participated in the study. Data is drawn from semi-structured interviews, observation and document analysis. For analyzing data, the researchers use an interactive model by Miles and Hubberman. The finding data indicates that most of teachers beliefs consistence with their instructional practices namely beliefs on learning objective, syllabus, classroom methods, instructional material and sources, media and assessment even thought the researcher find discrepancies namely teachers’ beliefs on lesson plan and classroom procedure. Based on this result, the researchers argue that reform in language teacher education need to address factors that hinder teachers from implementing instructions which aligns with their theoretical beliefs.ENGLISH TEACHING BASED ON INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE PRIMARY YEARS PROGRAMME Teachers’ Beliefs And Practices

Abstract

The industrial revolution 4.0 brought many changes in various sectors of life, including education. It also impacts curriculum changes. In the latest curriculum, MBKM, one of its characteristics is student-centered learning with one of its methods, namely case-based learning or problem-based learning. This study aims to find out how deep and extensive research has been conducted between 2013-2023 regarding problem-based learning in English teaching and the issues that develop in it. To reach those aims, the researchers use the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method and Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) as a data collection and reporting protocol. The findings revealed a noticeable increase in publications emphasizing problem-based learning as the main focus in the last three years. Among the numerous publications reviewed, the majority consisted of quantitative research studies. The research subjects predominantly comprised college and undergraduate students, while the most frequently chosen topic was problem-based learning in teaching writing. This comprehensive finding will reveal publishers, authors, research methods, issues, gaps, and novelties in problem-based Learning research that researchers can use for future research.

Abstract

This bibliometric study aims to explore the evolving landscape of research related to problem-based learning (PBL) in English language teaching (ELT). The research design comprehensively reviews academic publications from Google Scholar databases. The data is collected through Publish or Perish, and the analysis is conducted using bibliometric techniques. The research procedure consists of systematic literature searching and data extraction, followed by rigorous data analysis using Vosviewer. The bibliometric mapping using Vosviewer indicates fluctuating development in problem-based learning in English language teaching from 2015 to 2023, supported by 994 indexed publications on Google Scholar. The 30 patterns identified in this field form five dominant clusters: curriculum, English language teaching, experience, foreign language, learner, learning English, performance, task, ability, creativity, critical thinking skill, effectiveness, influence, learning model, outcome, active learning, challenge, interest, opportunity, practice, problem-based learning, systematic review, focus, inquiry, project, technology, total, higher order thinking skill, improvement, and perception.
