Abstract

Abstract

Background : Overuse or inappropriate antibiotics can cause resistance so that the genetic ability of bacteria become less or not sensitive to antibiotics through resistance mechanisms acquired, spontaneous mutation, and transferred resistance. However, if society have not changed the way they consume or use antibiotics rational, new antibiotics also will the same with now and be ineffective. Objective : Knowing the distribution of knowledge levels, individual characteristics, and behavior consumption antibiotics in society rural .Methods: This research is a cross sectional study. Questionnaire used to get information knowledge , characteristics and behavior consumption antibiotics in society Village Tanakaraeng Regency Gowa , South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Results: A total of 124 respondents were involved in study this . There is 74 respondent (59.7%) from group age 20 – 35 years old, majority woman that is 91 respondent (73.4%) with complaint main most sick of  tooth and headache that is 25 respondent (20.2%). Place purchase antibiotics the most is pharmacy with 62 respondent (50%), majority from college is 43 respondent (34.7%). There is 70 respondent (56.5%) with good knowledge. Based on behavior consumption antibiotics there is 110 respondents (88.7%) that have behavior irrational. Conclusion: The people of Tanakaraeng Village already have good knowledge about antibiotics, but majority own behavior irrational in consuming antibiotics

Abstract

Bacillus cereus, a gram-positive bacterium with a high incidence of causing infection through food, is a common cause of infection. Plant extract from Vetiveria zizanioides (L.) contains alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and tannins, and has been demonstrated to exhibit antibacterial action against other bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Vibrio cholerae, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, and Klebsiella pneumoniae. The purpose of this study is determining the antibacterial activity of vetiver root extract (Vetiveria zizanioides (L.)) against the growth of Bacillus cereus bacteria in vitro. In this experimental study, the inhibition effect of vetiver root extract against Bacillus cereus growth was measured using disc diffusion method. Extract consentraion used in this tudy were 60%, 80% and 100%. The diameter of area with no bacterial growth around disc (inbition zone) was measured and the average of diamter from four independent measurement was used to decide the sensitivity of bacteria towards the extract. The average measurement results from 60 percent concentration of extract were 6.70 mm, 7.04 mm for 80 percent concentration, and 7.05 mm for 100 percent extract concentration. The positive control, Amoxicillin 500 mg, had a diameter of 14.35 mm, whereas the negative control, sterile distilled water, had no impact. Bacillus cereus bacteria growth can be inhibited by Vetiveria zizanioides (L.) extract.

The Relationship Between Cell Death With Vascularization And Lymphocyte Reaction In Cervical Cancer Types Of Squamous Cell CarcinomaLatar Belakang: Kanker serviks merupakan masalah kesehatan yang menempati angka kejadian dan angka kematian tertinggi ke 4 di dunia sedangkan di Indonesia menjadi penyebab kematian di urutan ke 2. An estimated 80% - 90% of cervical cancer is a type of Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC). Cell death can be caused by tissue hypoxia and lymphocyte cells that will attack the body itself that is considered as an antigen. Objective: To identify biological behavior of cancer cells Cervical Squamous Cell Carcinoma types associated with cell death, vascularization, and lymphocyte reaction. Methods: A cross sectional survey was performed.Medical record and slide of hematoxylin eosin staining of endothelialc ells were obtained from cervical cancer laboratory Asri Anatomical Pathology Medical Center (AMC) and Cito Yogyakarta period January 2013 - April 2014.Results: Sample collection was 13 samples from AMC and Cito Lab Yogyakarta. There was no significant correlation between cell death with vascularization (p = 0:14) and the relationship of cell death and the number of lymphocytes (p = 0.34). Conclusions: There was no relationship either between cell death with vascularization or a significant relationship between cell death and the reaction of lymphocytes in cervical cancer types SCC.
