Abstract

Elementary school children represent a vulnerable group due to their limited knowledge and awareness of oral hygiene. One effective approach to address this issue is health education delivered through posters that are engaging, simple, and easily understood by children. The objective of this research was to examine the effect of health education on proper toothbrushing techniques using poster media on the knowledge level of students at SD Inpres Mapanget Barat, Manado. Methods This study employed a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest–posttest design. The sample consisted of 30 respondents selected through purposive sampling. A questionnaire was used to assess knowledge levels before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Results The mean knowledge score before the intervention was 9.07, which increased to 13.10 following the intervention. Statistical analysis yielded a ρ-value < 0.05, indicating a significant effect of health education using poster media on children’s knowledge of correct toothbrushing techniques. Conclusion Health education delivered through poster media is effective in enhancing elementary school students’ knowledge of proper toothbrushing practices. This approach can serve as a practical and child-friendly strategy to promote oral health awareness in school settings.
