Abstract

Refrigeration machines have become an important necessity in modern society’s lifestyle. To optimize the use of a refrigeration machine, the cooling capacity of the refrigeration machine must conform to the heat load to be tackled. This research was aimed at analysing the cooling loads of several food products, that are eggplants, cucumbers, tomatoes, and beer by using the cold box of Lucas Nulle Type RCC2 refrigeration machine in Mechanical Engineering Laboratory of Sam Ratulangi University. The required data in this research were the mass and temperature of the food products, and also the electrical current. The value of each data was obtained from three time experiments where each experiment was conducted in 60 minutes. Data analysis, then, resulted the cooling loads and required power of each food product, as follows:  for eggplants, the cooling load is 62.91 kJ with power of 241.23 Watt; cucumbers, cooling load 41.55 kJ, power 243.10 Watt; tomatoes, cooling load 60,36 kJ, power  235,62 Watt; and beer, cooling load 18,21 kJ, power 231,88 Watt. key word: cooling load, Refrigeration machines , LUCAS NULLE TYPE RCC2

Abstract

Rain or bad weather until recently a major problem for people who have a clothesline. Typically the clothes are dried often left to travel, so do not have time to pick up a clothesline at the time of going to rain atupun was night. to address the problems raised clothesline when it rains and it was night then the need for automated control systems by making automatic clothes line actuator. By designing all the tools from the sensor light dependent resistor (LDR) as a detector of sunlight, water sensor as a detector of rain, the DC motor as a driver, and Arduino Uno as the brain of the maker of the command of the tool, it can be made a clothesline automatically to help work in lifting clothes when it rains.            From the test results the tool that has been designed. The tool works every time the sensor will read the weather around, such as when the sensor does not detect the light that the circumstances surrounding the Arduino will translate as cloudiness / dark, so that the DC motor will draw a clothesline into the house. When the sensor detects sunlight LDR then Arduino will translate around the hot weather, it will come out ortomatis clothesline. Meanwhile, when the water sensor detects raindrops then be translated by Arduino as rainy weather and then the DC motor will draw a clothesline into. From these test results mover based automatic clothes drying apparatus arduino Uno ATmega328 has worked as expected and a solution lifter or a clothesline when rain was night. Keywords: Automatic clothesline, LDR Sensor, Water Sensor, Motor DC

Abstract

This research aims to calculate the cooling load in cold storage of some agricultural products: potatoes, tomatoes, and peppers; to calculate the compressor’s power that is used on the cold storage with three types of multistage compression system: two compressors – three evaporators system (type 1), one compressor – three evaporators system (type 2), and two compressors – one evaporator system (type 3) for each agricultural products; and to analyze the calculated compressor’s power to determine the most efficient refrigeration system.Based on the calculation’s results, it is found that the cooling load of potatoes is 295.438,28 Btu/hour, tomatoes 247.261,38 Btu/hour, peppers 300.281,36 Btu/hour, and the total cooling load of the three agricultural products is 841.981,02 Btu/hour. By using multistage compression system, it is obtained that the compressor’s power of type 1 is 106,15 hp, type 2 108,55 hp, and the type 3 212,03 hp that consists of type 3a is 75,55 hp, type 3b 59,44 hp, and type 3c 77,04 hp. Keywords: cooling load, multistage compression system, compressor’s power
