Abstract

Abstract

Transmission control protocol (TCP) employs acknowledgement (TCP-ACK) for every transmitted packets to ensure reliable transmission. As a result, it sends the next window packets after receiving the TCP-ACK packet of previous window. This means that the earlier the TCP-ACK packet arrives, the faster the TCP next window transmission and the better the TCP performances. To do so, there should be a special treatment to the transmitted TCP-ACK to fasten next window transmission. This paper proposes a collision probability reduction for the transmitted TCP-ACK packets so that the overall TCP delay reduces. Collision probability reduction can be implemented in many ways. Initially, mathematical analysis is provided to prove that method can work as expected. The mathematic analysis shows that when TCP-ACK collision probability is reduced, the overall TCP delay is also reduced. The proposed method is then implemented in 802.11, 802.16 and complex networks. The NS-2 simulations evaluations for the aforementioned networks and the proposed method proved that collision reductions on TCP-ACK exert average TCP delay reductions about 11.86%, 28.04% and 9.46% subsequently. The proposed method is also applicable for other TCP types.

Abstract

This paper reports the wireless vibration detector design and characterization for practical applications. System is built by using the ATmega microcontrollers, working on a free license 433 MHz frequency. Hardware characteristics are defined through experimental assessments. Assessment mainly on sensor output and sensor installation characteristics. As results, hardware is working as expected, where vibration level achieves at most 13% detection for 12 g vibration source. The vertical axis of the MPU6050 vibration detector results 87.5 times higher detection than in horizontal axis. Detected vibration increases from 1.03 g to 2.61 g when source-sensor distance is shortened from 10 cm to 2 cm. The aluminium sheet as sensor pad causes detection of 8.69 times higher than on ceramic pad. The lower the detection period the better the detection amplitude. However, the lower the period, the higher the consumed power. Microcontroller sleep mode is not suitable for short period detection. The node-based data validation to avoid transmitting false detection is not influencial for short period detection.

Abstract

Transmission control protocol provides reliable communication between two or more parties. Each transmitted packet is acknowledged to make sure successful deliveries. Transport layer security protocols send security information exchange as TCP loads. As results, the handshaking stage experiences longer delay as TCP acknowledgement process has already been delay prone. Furthermore, the security message transfers may have their own risks as they are not well protected yet. This paper proposes TCP-embedded three pass protocol for dynamic key exchange. The key exchange is embedded into TCP headers so that transmission delay is reduced, and message transfer is secured. The proposed protocol was assessed on self network by using socket programming in lossless environment. The assessments showed that the proposed protocol reduced three-pass protocol message transfer delay up to 25.8% on lossless channel. The assessment on security also showed that TCP-embedded three pass protocol successfully secured each transmitted TCP load using a unique key; that is much securer than the compared method.

Abstract

Fossil energy sources are dwindling. It is necessary to develop alternative energy sources for future energy. The solar cell is an alternative energy that can be used in Indonesia. The current challenge is utilizing solar panels for the best possible power production. This research gives the solution to design an increase in solar cell output power by using mirrors, cooling, and a double-axis solar tracking control system. The results show that using a mirror, cooling, and double-axis solar tracking produces optimal output power with a current and power are 2.43 amperes and 40.3 watts, respectively. Meanwhile, several factors can affect this solar panel's efficiency. Specifically, the amount of solar radiation that the solar panel can receive depends on the climate on the day and location of the research and the solar panel's dimensions.

Abstract

Vehicle detection application can assist in-vehicle surveillance functions and have implications for various fields. A vehicle can be identified through the license number attached to its license plate, the color and its shape. Vehicle detection can make use of multimedia sensors so that the design and detection performances can be optimal. Sensor performances are influenced by factors such as the number of multimedia sensors, sensor placement, sensor positioning, and schemes in case of system failure. This study makes use of multimedia sensors with cameras equipped by a phase detection auto focus (PDAF) technology which is like a pair of eyes to see an object. This study analyses 134 vehicles with number detection and various colors to see the effect on the detection and recognition processes. The cars were passed through the camera 10 times at a speed of 10-15 km/hour with various camera distances and positions. Various values and depths of the images were generated. The farther the distance the higher the disparity values. For maximum distance of 50 m, disparity is 6.20×106 and image depth is 16.88×109. Vehicle color influences detection with orange has the best accuracy, but the gray has the largest path error value.
