RECTIFYING THE TEACHING OF INTENSIVE READING THROUGH METACOGNITIVE STRATEGY: A CASE IN AN INDONESIAN JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL Rinia Zatalini

Abstract

Since intensive reading has long been a part of curriculum core in Indonesia and is the main and only English skill tested in the National Examination, many teaching procedures usually focus on ways to assist students succeed in the examination. Therefore, there is a tendency for teachers to simply equip students with texts and help to make sense of the texts by translation so that enabling students to answer the given questions. While it may be helpful to some extent, there is a claim that this mode of teaching is (1) less accurate as it is deemed as practising reading, not teaching students how to read and (2) less effective for a mere texts’ translation affords insufficient support for profound understanding and autonomy in learning to occur. This paper thus addresses this teaching issue happened specifically in a junior high school in Indonesia, where teachers still use translation, i.e. Grammar Translation Method, in teaching reading with a lot of practices and less strategy of how to read. Theoretical foundations of intensive reading and theories of language learning are critically discussed, which then lead to suggest the metacognitive strategy as a potential solution to resolve the issue. This paper hence could (a) enhance our understanding on intensive reading and its relation to language learning theories and (b) offer an insight of possible solution to cope other cases similar to the one presented in this paper.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan perubahan paradigma masyarakat Batak Toba tentang kontribusi pendidikan terhadap peningkatan kedudukan perempuan Batak Toba pedesaan dalam keluarga dan masyarakat di Desa Bukit Baru, mengidentifikasi faktor motivasi perempuan Batak Toba pedesaan melanjutkan pendidikan tinggi, dan menganalisis perubahan sikap dan perilaku dari para generasi anak perempuan yang sudah memperoleh pendidikan tinggi di Desa Bukit Baru. Jenis penelitian ini kualitatif deskriptif. Informan dalam penelitian ini dipilih melalui purposive sampling. Teknik pengumpulan data berupa observasi, wawancara dan studi dokumentasi. Teknik keabsahan data menggunakan ketekunan pengamatan, member check dan triangulasi sumber. Hasil penelitian ini berkaitan dengan perubahan paradigma masyarakat Batak toba tentang kontribusi pendidikan terhadap peningkatan kedudukan perempuan Batak Toba pedesaan dalam keluarga dan masyarakat di Desa Bukit Baru dilihat dari adanya peningkatan kedudukan perempuan dalam keluarga dan masyarakat. Faktor motivasi anak perempuan melanjutkan pendidikan tinggi dipengaruhi oleh faktor internal dan faktor eksternal. Perubahan perilaku dan sikap anak perempuan Batak Toba yang berpendidikan tinggi yaitu pandai bertutur, sopan santun, saling menghormati dan bijak mengambil keputusan.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan realitas penggunaan platform merdeka mengajar di SMA N 6 Pariaman, menganalisis penggunaan fitur platform merdeka mengajar dalam meningkatkan kompetensi profesional guru, dan mengidentifikasi kendala penggunaan platform merdeka mengajar dalam meningkatkan kompetensi profesional guru di SMA N 6 Pariaman. Metode penelitian ini mixed method dengan Sequential Eksplanatory. Responden dan informan dalam penelitian ini diambil melalui purposive sampling. Teknik pengumpulan data melalui angket, observasi, wawancara dan studi dokumentasi. Uji keabsahan data kuantitatif (validitas dan reliabilitas) serta kualitatif (triangulasi sumber). Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa realitas penggunaan platform merdeka mengajar sudah terlaksana dengan optimal dibuktikan dengan pemahaman guru dengan persentase 78% dikarenakan pemahaman guru semakin lama meningkat. Tingkat penggunaan dengan persentase 61% dimana guru mendapatkan inspirasi untuk pembelajaran yang menarik. Penerimaan dan adaptasi dengan persentase 48% dibuktikan guru memiliki minat yang tinggi untuk memperdalam pengetahuan yang dipelajari. Penggunaan fitur pada platform ini dapat meningkatkan keterampilan mengajar guru yakni pembelajaran berdiferensiasi dan pembelajaran melalui aplikasi quizizz. Kemudian guru mengalami kendala waktu dengan persentase 48% dikarenakan waktu guru mengajar yang cukup padat, memeriksa ujian dan tugas peserta didik.

Abstract

This research is based on the problem hof rapid technological developments that are changing people's interaction patterns on social media. Even though it provides many benefits, social media is often misused for cyber sexual harassment, especially against women. This research aims to map forms of cyber sexual harassment on the social media Instagram which views women as objects of sexuality. This research uses a qualitative approach with content analysis methods. Data was collected from four female figure public Instagram accounts, namely the initials NM, GA, RK, and AH. These accounts included 14 posts with a total of 209 comments containing harassment, consisting of 180 real accounts and 29 fake accounts. Data collection techniques were carried out through documentation studies and data scraping, which were then analyzed using coding techniques for distribution mapping with the help of Atlas.ti software. The validity of the data was tested through triangulation methods and content observation to ensure the validity and reliability of the findings. The research results show that there are six forms of cyber sexual harassment that occur on Instagram social media, namely: (1) victim blamming, (2) spamming, (3) sexting, (4) body shaming, (5) flaming, and (6) religious-based harassment.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis problematika guru PPKn dalam mengembangkan media pembelajaran pada kurikulum merdeka di SMAN 1 Kandis provinsi Riau, dan mendeskripsikan faktor pendukung dan penghambat guru PPKn dalam mengembangkan media pembelajaran pada kurikulum merdeka. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskripstif kualitatif. Adapun informan dalam penelitian ini ditentukan secara purposive sampling dan pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, wawancara dan studi dokumentasi. Uji keabsahan data dalam penelitian ini digunakan dengan triangulasi sumber. Data yang diperoleh kemudian dianalisis dengan tahapan pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data, kesimpulan dan verifikasi data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan problematika guru PPKn dalam mengembangkan media pembelajaran pada kurikulum merdeka di SMANi 1 Kandis yaitu dalam analisis kebutuhan, perencanaan, desain, pengembangan, evaluasi, revisi, implementasi, penggunaan keberlanjutan, dan evaluasi terus menerus. Faktor pendukung guru PPKn dalam mengembangkan media pembelajaran dengan melalui kegiatan workshop, evaluasi keberlanjutan pada media pembelajaran, faktor penghambat guru PPKn dalam mengembangkan media pembelajaran membutuhkan waktu untuk mempersiapkan perangkat media pembelajaran berbasis IT, sarana dan prasarana yang kurang memadai.
