Abstract

The Malari riots of 15 January 1974 brought about profound changes in the structure of trade and the livelihoods of traders at Pasar Senen, Jakarta. Prior to this event, Pasar Senen functioned as one of the principal centers of trade and distribution, supporting the provision of essential goods for urban communities. The riots resulted in extensive physical destruction of the market, the disruption of trading activities, and significant economic losses for traders. This study aims to analyze the transformation of trading practices at Pasar Senen following the 1974 Malari riots, as well as the policies implemented by the Jakarta Provincial Government in the processes of restructuring and recovery. The research employs a historical method, encompassing the stages of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography, utilizing primary sources in the form of contemporary newspapers, including Berita Buana, Sinar Harapan, Merdeka, and Pelita. The findings indicate that recovery policies were not solely focused on the physical rehabilitation of the market but also involved the restructuring of the trade distribution system through trader relocation and the transfer of distribution functions to the Kramat Jati Central Market. These policies led to changes in cost structures and weakened the bargaining position of small scale traders, as reflected in rising operational costs and reduced economic leverage. The post Malari recovery of Pasar Senen reflects a shift in the role of the state in regulating urban trade, with direct implications for the socio economic conditions of traditional market traders.

Abstract

Pasar Wage is a traditional market that has been operating since the colonial era and was renovated in the 1990s. This market has always experienced dynamics, and in the 2000s a fire occurred that caused various social problems. This study seeks to uncover the social aspects and policies implemented from 2000 to 2024, with a focus on the impact of the fire and the revitalization efforts undertaken by the local government. The research method used is a historical method that includes heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. It utilizes primary sources in the form of local government archives, reports from the Regional Market Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD) I of the Banyumas Regency Industry and Trade Office, and interviews with traders and market managers. The results show that the fire was a turning point that had a significant impact on the decline in economic activity and the social networks of traders. Although the revitalization succeeded in improving the market infrastructure, these efforts have not been able to fully restore the market's socio-economic function. This study confirms that Pasar Wage is a historical space that reflects the relationship between government policies and the socio-economic dynamics of the local community.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between the monitoring system and coffee harvesting in the Bojongrejo Temanggung coffee plantation, which took place during the 1970s-2000s. Coffee harvesting is the activity of picking and collecting coffee that has fallen and scattered on the harvested plantation land. This study uses historical methods (heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography) based on oral history sources and through a socio-economic approach. Based on the research findings, it shows that the plantation monitoring system is run through a hierarchical management structure, but in its implementation still leaves leeway in plantation spaces that can be used for coffee harvesting by the surrounding community. When coffee production was high (boom period) from the 1970s to the 1990s, massive coffee harvesting activities occurred in the Bojongrejo coffee plantation. Coffee harvesting was used as an informal economic strategy by the surrounding community and took place as a collective habit, especially for women.  Based on this, the massive coffee gorek creates a local economic network that operates outside the official plantation distribution system and changes according to the dynamics of plantation production. The results of this study also confirm that informal economic practices do not always arise solely due to economic crises, but are also driven by high production opportunities and inconsistent supervision, which emerge as a rational expression of the community's moral economy, not simply institutional weaknesses.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze digital transformation in the fashion Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector in the city of Bandung over a period of two decades (2000-2022). As the center of the national textile industry, Bandung is experiencing fundamental changes in the distribution and marketing patterns of fashion products. Using historical research methods, this article traces the transition of offline sales dominance in industrial and retail centers towards digital technology. Research findings show that the implementation of mobile banking (m-banking) is the main foundation that changes transaction behavior, which is then strengthened by the role of e-commerce platforms as an important role during the transition period. The Covid-19 pandemic was identified as a disruptive factor that paradoxically had a positive impact in the form of accelerating the digital ecosystem for fashion MSMEs to survive in the global market.

Abstract

This study develops and evaluates a Virtual Public History model for peace education among Central Java high school students. Using Research and Development with the ADDIE model, local narratives of conflict and reconciliation were integrated into an interactive digital platform. Expert validation and limited trials with 25 students revealed a critical paradox: high pedagogical relevance and cultural sensitivity contrasted sharply with infrastructural constraints and low technical feasibility. Findings demonstrate strong demand for contextually resonant peace-oriented content while highlighting persistent digital divides. Contributing to discourse on History Education as Social and Reconciliatory Practice, the study proposes an "offline-first" hybrid implementation strategy. It offers nuanced critique of globally circulating digital pedagogy models, emphasizing necessary adaptation of technological innovations to local socio-material realities in post-colonial societies for sustainable educational impact.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is one of the infectious diseases that remains a public health problem in the city of Semarang. From 2010 to 2019, the number of DHF cases fluctuated, with an upward trend during certain periods. This study aims to analyze the dynamics of DHF cases in the period 2010 to 2019, as well as to examine the response of the government and the community in efforts to combat it. This study discusses how DHF cases in Semarang City fluctuate each year and what kind of response is taken to control the disease. The research method used is the historical method, which consists of four elements: heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Data was obtained from newspaper archives, reports, and relevant previous studies. The results of the study show that the fluctuation in dengue fever cases is also influenced by environmental factors, population density, and seasonal changes, while the government and community responses are carried out through mosquito breeding site eradication programs, fogging, and health education. Combating dengue fever requires continuous cooperation between the government and the community so that dengue fever cases can be reduced more effectively.
