Abstract

Discrepancy of income between regions in South Sumatera province which tend to increase indicating high inequality. This study aims to analyze income convergence year 2006-2012 with sigma convergence and beta conditional convergence. The result with FD GMM show the existence income convergence and require 22 years to decrease half inequality by involving human capital and physic capital, that show slow process the convergence. Long road with small contribution to GDP per capita, causing slow income convergence. Hence, human capital and physic capital that existing especially long road should be optimized to accelerate income convergence between regions in South Sumatra province.

Abstract

Indonesia became the second highest youth unemployment in ASEAN countries. The rate of young educated unemployment in Indonesia continues to fluctuate during the period 2018-2022. The large supply of labor during the demographic dividen period must be utilized optimally in order to bring benefits such as economic growth and reduce unemployment. This study aims to analyze the rate of young educated unemployment in Indonesia from 2018-2022 using panel data regression. The results show that the population dependency ratio, industrial sector GRDP, agricultural sector GRDP and average worker wages affect young educated unemployment. The government is expected to increase the labor-intensive industrial sector and promote modern agriculture to young workers in order to reduce unemployment among young educated people.

Abstract

Food security is a strategic element in the country's development. Potato as a leading horticultural crop is targeted to support food security. North Sumatera Province, as one of the largest potato producing regions in Indonesia, faces low productivity problem, even lower than Indonesia’s and other countries productivity value. High output without an increase in productivity indicates inefficiency problems. This study aims to analyse technical efficiency in North Sumatera Province using Stochastic Frontier Analysis and the data from Cost Structure of Horticulture Cultivation Household Survey 2018. The results show that technical inefficiency exists in potato production and all inputs positively influence output. In addition, farm households that operate with older, less educated farmers, no land ownership, no pest control, no business assistance, and no farmer group membership tend to be technically inefficient. Therefore, the stakeholders must cooperate to evaluate potato farming performance to achieve maximum production and productivity.

Abstract

Consumption of sugarcane by the Indonesian population is very high, thus the availability of sugar needs to be considered. Sugarcane consumption increases every year; however, this is not matched by an increase in production. As a result, the gap between consumption and production is widening, leading to an increase in imports. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the determinants of sugarcane production in Indonesia using the panel data regression method. The data used are secondary data from the six largest sugarcane-producing provinces in Indonesia from 2017-2022, sourced from the Ministry of Agriculture and the Central Statistics Agency. Panel data regression with the fixed effect model method and weighted least square shows that harvested area, the number of farmers, and Gross Fixed Capital Formation (GFCF) have a significant positive effect on sugarcane production, while the number of rainy days has a significant negative effect on sugarcane production. Increasing production is not only achieved by expanding sugarcane acreage but also by improving the quality of farmers, facilitating access to capital sources, and building good irrigation systems
