Abstract

Cash Waqf Linked Sukuk (CWLS) is one of the innovative fiscal instruments through Islamic Financial Institutions in Indonesia that uses waqf funds as sukuk investment. The collection of waqf funds is still experiencing obstacles such as: lack of understanding of the Muslim community on the concept of the importance of CWLS, lack of public trust in cash waqf institutions and lack of willingness to donate cash waqf. This study conducted a survey of 151 potential Indonesian Muslim respondents consisting of civil servants, entrepreneurs, academics, and households. By using logistic regression analysis, it is expected to produce findings related to factors that affect understanding of the Muslim community regarding cash waqf linked sukuk (CWLS). Based on the results of the analysis with a significance tolerance level of 0.05%, it was concluded that formal education, income, and age had a statistically significant effect on understanding of CWLS. Based on the log of odds value, the younger respondents with the higher income and the higher formal education has more probability to have understanding on CWLS.

Abstract

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in March 2021, Indonesia's Gini ratio was at 0.381, or an increase of 0.001 points compared to the Gini ratio in September 2019 of 0.380. Indonesia's inequality rate reaches 49 percent. The following is the 2018 Global Wealth Report from the Boston Consulting Group which notes that the richest 10 percent of Indonesia's people control 75.3 percent of the wealth of the Indonesian population. In the Islamic perspective, zakat is one of the useful philanthropic instruments as a solution to this inequality. With the majority of the population (86.88%) being Muslim, Indonesia has a potential for zakat realization of 326.7 trillion. However, so far the realization of the potential for zakat is only 5 percent (BAZNAS, 2021). Therefore, zakat is present as a solution to reduce economic inequality in the Islamic perspective along with optimizing the utilization of zakat through community-based productive zakat assistance activities. This journal seeks to describe the form of community service socialization activities in Sukoharjo Village, Kepanjen Malang Regency, as a form of implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. The socialization of productive zakat assistance is very important not only as a solution to the problem of inequality, but also opens a new paradigm regarding the utilization of zakat from various perspectives, both social, cultural, agricultural, animal husbandry, interdisciplinary science and other economic fields.

The data were analyzed using logit and probit regression.Findings – The results of this study reveal that both the logit and probit methods consistently show that from the five Maqashid Syariah dimensions, the dimensions of faith, life and wealth positively influence the life satisfaction of volunteers. In contrast, the intellectual and descendants dimensions are not significant to the life satisfaction of volunteers. Furthermore, the wealth dimension has the greatest tendency toward the life satisfaction of Muslim volunteers from charitable organizations in Indonesia. Implications – This research has implications for developing empirical analysis of individual well-being in Indonesia and the research on the subjective well-being of volunteers, which is part of a national and international analysis of economic happiness linked with the Islamic economy, specifically maqashid sharia as an essential part of Muslim individuals. Originality – This research is expected to fill in the existing research gap regarding welfare analysis of volunteer life satisfaction from an Islamic economic point of view through the Dimension of Maqashid Sharia. This study employs volunteers as objects because Indonesian volunteers are the most numerous in the world, contributing to Indonesia's position as the most generous country in the world.
