Abstract

Artificial Intelligence has become a hot topic in recent years, with increasing interest in its potential as a writing aid. Brainstorming ideas has been a challenge for students in writing articles. Furthermore, with the development of Artificial Intelligence, such as Perplexity as a writing aid, it can elaborate new ideas in brainstorming accompanied by relevant sources and make writing articles more efficient. This study reports students’ perspective towards Perplexity as Artificial Intelligence to brainstorm ideas in academic writing. Qualitative methods with interviews as the instrument was used in doing the research. The sample is from the English Department Study Program in one of the Universities in Central Java, Indonesia. To gather the data for this research, close-ended and semi-structured interviews are combined to gain more information. The results explored the challenges of Artificial Intelligence in teaching and learning in 5.0 society. Moreover, AI can be a useful tool in facilitating the brainstorming process, there are still some barriers that need to be overcome.

Abstract

In the 21st century, critical thinking and digital literacy have become essential in education. However, despite the Merdeka Curriculum’s goal to promote creativity and autonomy, writing instruction often remains focused on grammar, resulting in low student engagement and writing anxiety. This study aims to examine how deep learning strategies, based on mindful, meaningful, and joyful learning, enhance students’ writing skills and engagement. Using a qualitative narrative inquiry design, the study explores the experiences of a pre-service teacher and her students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings show that deep learning strategies improve students’ engagement, confidence, and idea development in writing. Mindful learning promotes metacognitive awareness, meaningful learning helps students connect ideas to personal experiences, and joyful learning reduces anxiety and increases motivation. The use of Virtual Reality (VR) further supports students’ imagination and participation. These findings imply that integrating deep learning strategies with supportive learning environments and appropriate technology can effectively improve students’ writing development and should be considered in teaching practices within the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

Mathematical and English literacy are skills that students must master in the current era of globalization. Mathematical literacy focuses on numeracy literacy, while English literacy focuses on reading and writing literacy. Based on data, Mathematics literacy and English literacy of SMPIT Ihsanul Fikri students in Magelang City are still relatively low. There are still many teachers who have not found suitable learning methods to apply to improve their students' mathematics and English literacy. The effective application of the Kumon method in learning is still unknown to SMPIT teacher Ihsanul Fikri. Apart from that, mastery of Mathematics literacy and English literacy is also not yet aligned with literacy programs in schools. Thus, Community Partnership Empowerment (PKM) activities were held in the form of training and assistance in creating the EMAK (English and Mathematics Acquisition through Kumon Method) application. The EMAK application uses the Moodle platform so it can be controlled with an admin account, teacher account and student account. PKM activities are carried out through stages of preparation, training, mentoring and evaluation. The training activity involved all Mathematics teachers and English teachers at SMPIT Ihsanul Fikri Magelang City. The posttest results showed an increase in the understanding of the training participants, namely with an average of 82 from the previous 75. Teachers' skills in making quizzes using the EMAK application also increased. Next, FGD activities were carried out to see the successes and obstacles of PKM activities.
