Abstract

This research aims at finding out whether the use of the building word method is effective in improving students' vocabulary mastery. This research is an experimental research which the experimental group was pre-tested and post tested. The population in this research is all X Grade students at MA Amaliyah Guppi Mamuju. The sample of the research is the grade X students of MA Amaliyah Guppi which was taken using Cluster sampling technique. The data was obtained through vocabulary test that consists of 50 questions. The result of the study shows that the use of the building word method is effective in improving students' vocabulary mastery at the class X students of MA. Amaliyah Guppi. The result of the study shows that there are significant differences in the students' vocabulary after treatments were given. The result of the value of Sig. (2- tailed) .000 is smaller than the probability significance value of 0.05 and the calculated t-test is greater than the t-table value where 5.267>2.093. Simply, the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that the students' vocabulary mastery increased effectively by using building word method.

Abstract

This research tries to investigate the Analysis of Students’ Verbal Communication in the English Education Study Program of the Tomakaka University of Mamuju. By answering these questions What kind of errors are made by students when committing verbal communication in the classroom at the English Education Study Program of the Tomakaka University of Mamuju? What are the causes of the errors? to achieve the aims, the researcher implemented research to analyse verbal communication by the Qualitative Descriptive method. This research was conducted at Tomakaka University Mamuju. English language students at Tomakaka Mamuju University, have many problems occurring at the same time In the framework of overcoming the problem, the researcher intends to carry out an analysis of the verbal communication of students. This analysis will be a reference to correct errors that often occur.

Abstract

This research is a quasi-experimental research which aims to find out whether the use of the Roundtable technique is effective in improving students' writing skills in descriptive text and to find out students' perceptions regarding the use of the Roundtable technique in improving their writing skills in descriptive text. The independent variable in this research is the application of the Roundtable technique, while the dependent variables are descriptive text writing skills and student perceptions. The population in this study was all 6 classes of Tiwikrama Mamuju Vocational School students, while the sample was class X1 as an experimental class with a total of 28 students and class X2 as a control class with a total of 28 students. The research data was obtained by giving a learning outcomes test on the descriptive text material in the form of a pre-test and post-test. The data analysis technique is by using the SPSS program, data percentages and tables. It can be concluded that the application of the Roundtable Technique has a significant effect on the writing ability of Tiwikrama Mamuju Vocational School students on the main material of description text. Apart from that, the results of the questionnaire on student perceptions are based on 4 perception assessment indicators, namely, benefits, interests, activities and implementation. The results obtained were that students predominantly gave positive perceptions of the use of the roundtable technique in improving students' writing abilities in descriptive text.

Abstract

This research, which is a quasi-experiment, sought to ascertain whether using the Roundtable technique actually helped students improve their ability to write descriptive texts as well as to ascertain the students' perceptions of the technique's effectiveness. Implementing the Roundtable technique is the independent variable in this study, and students' perspectives and their abilities to write descriptive texts are the dependent variables. The population of this study consists of all six classes of SMK Tiwikrama Mamuju, and the sample consisted of class X1 as the experiment class and class X2 as the control class, both of which included 28 students each. The research data were obtained by giving a learning achievement test on the description text material in the form of pre-test and post-test. The data analysis technique is by using the SPSS program, data percentages and tables. Based on the results of statistical analysis, P = 0.00 less than a = 0.05. It is means that the implementation of the Roundtable Technique has a significant effect on the writing skills of X1 students of SMK Tiwikrama Mamuju on the subject matter of descriptive text.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to find out the correlation between students’ introvert personality and their speaking skills at MAN 1 Mamuju. In conducting this research, the researcher has collected the data using correlational research. The data was collected through questionnaire, interview and speaking test. The researcher used purposive sampling in determining the research sample. There were 40 students consisted of 20 extrovert and 20 introvert students that had been divided by using the MBTI Personality Questionnaire by Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center to acquire the data needed. The data were analyzed by using SPSS 22.0 that consist of Normality Test, Pearson Product Moment. the result of this research showed that there was no correlation between students' personalities (extrovert and introvert) and their speaking skills. According to the result of statistical calculation, it could be seen that the correlation score was -0.082 smaller compared to r-table at the significant degree 5% (0.312). Thus, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was rejected and null hypothesis (H0) was accepted. In conclusion there is no correlation between students' personalities (extrovert and introvert) and their speaking skills.
