Abstract

Food crop cultivation, such as vegetables, is one of methods to reach food security goals. There are lots of methods to cultivate vegetables, and one among them is hydroponic cultivation. Our activities aimed to introduce this hydroponic cultivation technology to the community in SMA Negeri 2 Skanto, District of Keerom,  Jayapura. The methodology used this time was technology transfer by sharing information to the students as targeted community. The high enthusiasm from participants became an indicator for the successful of this program.Keyword: cultivation; food security; vegetables; hydroponic.

Abstract

The younger generation has an important role in preserving the environment. The objectives of the community service activities: (1) to introduce environmental cadre training and mentoring programs for the younger generation of PWM Papua; (2) through community service, it can produce outputs in the form of accredited national community service journals. This community service activity was carried out on Monday, August 25, 2025 at the Environmental Assembly - IPM PWM Papua. The methods used were lectures, discussions, and real actions. The activity participants were 21 participants, starting with a pre-test (in the form of a questionnaire) to identify participant knowledge. Then the provision of material about environmental cadres and ending with a post-test with the quizziz.com application. The conclusion is that: (1) Participants were very enthusiastic in participating in community service activities and understanding the environmental cadre training material; (2) Based on the evaluation results, it shows that the level of participant understanding is quite good when seen from the percentage of participant statements and answers.

Abstract

Character building is a vital component of education, aimed at fostering a generation of individuals of noble character, discipline, and responsibility through internal and external strategies. The objectives of this community service activity are: (a) to provide understanding, foster attitudes, and bring about behavioural changes that demonstrate care for the environment; (b) through this community service activity, it is hoped that an accredited national community service journal will be produced. The community service was carried out on 11 May 2026 using lectures, simulations, practical sessions, and documentation. The results of the community service showed that 26 people attended the event, whilst only 23 respondents completed the questionnaire. Survey results showed that 73.9% of respondents answered ‘know’, 26.1% ‘do not know’, and 4.3% were ‘unsure’ regarding their knowledge of ecology and the environment. Environmental awareness was recorded at 82.6% of respondents, whilst active participation was only 52.2% of respondents. The activity evaluation results showed a range of 43%–81%, indicating that participants possessed adequate knowledge of ecology and the environment. Overall, the activity was deemed successful and capable of fostering positive character traits in participants to enhance their environmental awareness. The conclusions are that (1) participants were very enthusiastic about taking part in community service activities and understood the material on character building for environmental care through the Ecology-Based School Programme; (2) based on the evaluation results.
