Abstract

This study investigates the effect of using rice husk charcoal as an adsorbent in adsorption-assisted distillation for bioethanol purification. The research is motivated by the need for more efficient, low-cost, and sustainable bioethanol purification methods, considering the limitations of conventional distillation due to azeotrope formation and high energy consumption. An experimental laboratory method was employed by varying the mass of rice husk charcoal at 3 g, 5 g, and 7 g under a constant operating temperature of 78 °C and an initial ethanol concentration of 70%. Performance parameters analyzed included ethanol concentration improvement, separation efficiency, bioethanol yield, and condenser performance. The results indicate that increasing adsorbent mass significantly enhances ethanol purity, with the highest concentration of 89.4% and maximum separation efficiency achieved at 7 g of adsorbent. However, the highest bioethanol yield was obtained at 3 g of adsorbent, indicating a trade-off between product purity and quantity. Overall, rice husk charcoal is proven to be an effective, environmentally friendly alternative adsorbent with strong potential for application in small- to medium-scale bioethanol purification systems.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effect of chimney height variation on the performance of a solar-powered cascara coffee dryer prototype. Chimney height is an important parameter in drying systems because it affects the rate of hot air flow, relative humidity, and drying process efficiency. An experimental study was conducted by varying the chimney height in the dryer's air outlet duct, then observing the drying performance of coffee cherry husks (cascara) as the test material. The main parameters analyzed included drying time, temperature stability in the drying chamber, drying efficiency, and final product quality. The results showed that variations in chimney height had a significant effect on system performance. A chimney with a height of 220 cm proved to produce the best performance with a more stable air flow rate, consistent drying temperature, and 100% efficiency. This results in a faster, more even, and higher quality cascara drying process. The final product, dried cascara coffee, can then be processed into high-value herbal tea drinks and has the potential to increase coffee product diversification. Thus, this study confirms that proper chimney height adjustment is a crucial factor in the design and development of solar drying technology, especially for agricultural products such as coffee cherry skin. These findings are expected to serve as the basis for developing more efficient, environmentally friendly dryer designs that support increased added value for coffee derivative products at both the farmer and small-to-medium industry levels.

Abstract

Impact and bending tests were conducted on laminated beams made from coconut palm and thorny bamboo to evaluate their potential as alternative materials for wooden ship keels. The study compared the shock load and bending strength of laminated beams with three-layer variations (3, 5, and 7), arranged in a carvel pattern. Testing followed ASTM D6110-10 for impact and ASTM D143 for bending, with moisture content kept below 18% per BKI standards. Results showed that impact strength increased with more layers, from 0.144 J/mm² (3 layers) to 0.248 J/mm² (7 layers). Bending strength also improved, from 14.37 MPa (3 layers) to 38.32 MPa (7 layers). However, the materials fell into Strength Class IV-V under Indonesian Classification Board standards, making them unsuitable as solid wood alternatives for ship keels due to insufficient strength.

Abstract

A thread is an essential element of a bolt that functions as both a fastener and a force-transmitting component, and therefore must be able to withstand both static and dynamic loads. In practical applications, threads are frequently subjected to repeated loading, which can potentially lead to failure due to material fatigue. This study aims to analyze the effect of thread depth variation on the fatigue resistance of AISI 1045 steel processed using a CNC Gedee Weiler Learn Turn machine. The thread depth variations used were 0.4 mm, 0.6 mm, and 0.8 mm. The testing method was carried out using a rotary bending fatigue machine until the specimen fractured, after which the number of cycles to failure and the resulting bending stress were calculated. The test results show that the greater the thread depth, the higher the bending stress experienced by the specimen, namely 227.7 MPa at a depth of 0.4 mm, 253.8 MPa at a depth of 0.6 mm, and 284.3 MPa at a depth of 0.8 mm. However, an increase in thread depth resulted in a decrease in the number of cycles to failure. The specimen with a 0.4 mm thread depth exhibited the most optimal and highest fatigue life value, at 5,127.54 cycles, whereas the specimen with a 0.8 mm thread depth achieved the most optimal fatigue life of only 2,603.04 cycles. These findings indicate that a shallower thread depth provides better fatigue resistance in AISI 1045 steel.

Abstract

Pembelajaran abad ke-21 menuntut guru dan siswa memiliki literasi digital yang memadai agar teknologi dapat dimanfaatkan secara pedagogis, kritis, dan kolaboratif. Namun, pemanfaatan teknologi pembelajaran di sekolah masih cenderung bersifat administratif dan belum diintegrasikan secara optimal dalam praktik pembelajaran. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan literasi digital guru dan siswa dalam mendukung pembelajaran abad ke-21 melalui pendekatan pendampingan partisipatif. Metode pengabdian dilaksanakan melalui tahapan analisis kebutuhan, pelatihan literasi digital, pendampingan praktik pembelajaran berbasis digital, serta evaluasi. Evaluasi dilakukan menggunakan pretest–posttest literasi digital, observasi perubahan praktik mengajar, dan pengumpulan umpan balik dari guru dan siswa. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan pada literasi digital guru dan siswa, perubahan praktik pembelajaran ke arah integrasi teknologi secara pedagogis, serta respon positif dari guru dan siswa terhadap pelaksanaan kegiatan. Pendampingan literasi digital terbukti mampu mendorong pembelajaran yang lebih aktif, kolaboratif, dan kritis sesuai dengan karakteristik pembelajaran abad ke-21. Kegiatan ini merekomendasikan penerapan pendampingan literasi digital secara berkelanjutan sebagai strategi peningkatan mutu pembelajaran di sekolah.

Abstract

Ketahanan pangan merupakan salah satu aspek strategis dalam mendukung kesejahteraan masyarakat dan pembangunan berkelanjutan. Kecamatan Matangkuli memiliki potensi sumber daya pertanian yang cukup besar, namun masih dihadapkan pada keterbatasan pemahaman masyarakat terkait kebijakan ketahanan pangan yang dicanangkan pemerintah. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman dan kesadaran masyarakat mengenai kebijakan ketahanan pangan serta mendorong partisipasi aktif dalam implementasinya di tingkat lokal. Metode yang digunakan meliputi sosialisasi, diskusi interaktif, dan penyampaian materi secara partisipatif kepada aparatur desa dan masyarakat. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan masyarakat mengenai konsep ketahanan pangan, peran pemerintah, serta upaya yang dapat dilakukan masyarakat dalam menjaga ketersediaan, akses, dan pemanfaatan pangan. Kegiatan ini diharapkan dapat mendukung penguatan ketahanan pangan berbasis masyarakat di Kecamatan Matangkuli.
