Abstract

Background: Learning outcomes in physical education are influenced by both psychological and physiological factors. However, the mechanism through which motivation contributes to learning outcomes, particularly through physical fitness as an intervening variable, remains underexplored in educational research. Aims: This study aims to analyze the direct and indirect effects of motivation and physical fitness on physical education learning outcomes among junior high school students. Method: A quantitative, data-driven approach with a causal-associative design was employed. The sample consisted of 32 students selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through a Likert-scale motivation questionnaire, the Indonesian Student Fitness Test (TKSI Phase D), and students’ academic performance records. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, normality testing, and mediation analysis using multiple regression. Results: The results indicate that motivation significantly affects physical fitness (β = 0.547, p < 0.001) and has a direct effect on learning outcomes (β = 0.295, p < 0.05). Physical fitness also significantly influences learning outcomes (β = 0.331, p < 0.05). Furthermore, physical fitness partially mediates the relationship between motivation and learning outcomes, with an indirect effect of 27.6%. Conclusion: Motivation and physical fitness significantly influence physical education learning outcomes, both directly and indirectly. Physical fitness functions as an important mediating variable, highlighting the need for integrated strategies that enhance both student motivation and physical condition to improve academic performance.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the direct and indirect effects of speed, flexibility, and training motivation on crescent kick ability among Pencak Silat athletes at Walet Puti Martial Arts School, Jambi City. A quantitative associative design with path analysis was employed. The sample consisted of 40 athletes selected through purposive sampling from a population of 80 athletes. Speed was measured using a 30-meter sprint test, flexibility through the sit-and-reach test, motivation using a validated questionnaire, and crescent kick ability through a standardized crescent kick test. Data were analyzed using path analysis at a significance level of 0.05. Speed demonstrated the strongest direct effect on crescent kick ability (β = -0.934; 87.20%), followed by flexibility (β = 0.292; 0.85%) and motivation (β = 0.091; 0.82%). Motivation mediated the effects of speed (0.25%) and flexibility (0.15%) on kicking performance. Simultaneously, speed, flexibility, and motivation explained 96.82% of the variance in crescent kick ability (R² = 0.984). Speed was the dominant determinant of crescent kick performance, while flexibility and motivation provided complementary contributions. Integrating physical and psychological training is essential for optimizing Pencak Silat performance.

Abstract

Background: Conventional badminton performance analysis primarily relies on manual observation and recording, making the process time-consuming, subjective, and unable to provide immediate feedback for evidence-based coaching. These limitations reduce the efficiency of training evaluation, particularly for beginner athletes. Aims: This study aimed to develop and validate an Android-based data-driven badminton performance analysis application featuring real-time tagging and performance visualization to improve the efficiency and objectivity of coaching practices. Method: A Research and Development (R&D) approach employing the ADDIE model was adopted. The application was validated by three experts in badminton, educational technology, and sports coaching, followed by field testing involving 30 beginner badminton athletes. User acceptance was evaluated using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), while effectiveness was determined by comparing application-based and conventional performance analysis methods. Results: The application achieved excellent validity with an expert agreement score of 1.00 and a reliability coefficient of 1.000. Field testing revealed a significant improvement in performance analysis compared with conventional methods (t = 51.95 > 2.00), indicating greater efficiency, objectivity, and accuracy in processing performance data. Conclusion: The developed application is highly valid, practical, and effective, providing an accessible digital solution that supports objective, data-driven badminton performance analysis for beginner athletes.

Abstract

Background: Spatial cognitive skills, encompassing bilateral distance estimation, multi-object positional reasoning, angular spatial judgment, and navigational planning, are primary determinants of shooting performance in precision sports such as pétanque, yet no validated sport-specific instrument exists to measure these capacities in this athletic population. Aims: This study aimed to develop and validate a spatial cognitive skills instrument for elite pétanque athletes through a systematic Research and Development (R&D) approach, encompassing expert panel content validity evaluation and field effectiveness testing. Methods: An R&D design was employed across four sequential phases: preparation (systematic needs analysis and construct identification via focus group discussion), development (construction of a 15-item five-level motor-perceptual board apparatus instrument), content validation (Aiken’s V evaluation by a six-member multi-disciplinary expert panel), and field effectiveness testing (instrument administration to 57 senior pétanque Indonesian athletes, 40 males and 17 females, aged ≥ 17 years). Aiken’s V ≥ 0.75 was set as the content validity threshold. Effectiveness testing examined score distributions, difficulty gradient verification, and preliminary discriminant validity between athlete experience groups. Results: Validation by four psychologists showed that 13 items met acceptable standards, with Aiken values ranging from 0.8 to 0.9. However, two items did not meet the standards: items 7 (V = 0.70) and 14 (V = 0.65). This lower validity was also reinforced by qualitative feedback from the validators, who recommended refining the instrument's measurement range and questioned its consistency. Furthermore, validation by pétanque coaches yielded an Aiken value of 0.9, indicating satisfactory content validity. Finally, experts in sports testing and measurement also reported satisfactory results. Conclusion: The instrument demonstrated acceptable content validity for 13 of 15 items and promising field effectiveness, establishing a theoretically grounded and sport-specific Phase 1 psychometric foundation. Items 7 and 14 require targeted revision before reliability assessment, construct validity testing, and normative data development in subsequent phases.
