Abstract

The oil palm plantation industry adheres to the concept of sustainability paradigm on 3 main principles, namely profit, people (social society) and planet (environment). One of the social issues is to keep community involvement in running the oil palm plantation business process stable. With the existence of social problems in the community regarding oil palm plantations, the company as a stakeholder seeks to implement Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs with the hope of establishing a harmonious relationship between the company and the local community and the establishment of cooperation so that the community benefits both socially, economically and culturally. This potential mapping program is expected to be the foundation for oil palm plantation companies to determine appropriate coaching programs to improve the welfare of the community around the company by analyzing the description of production aspects, market aspects, administrative financial aspects, human resource aspects, sustainability aspects in each potential business. The research is focused on 2 sub-districts and 1 district in the province of Central Kalimantan. From the results of the analysis , it was concluded that the potential for CSR for horticulture committees and fisheries and livestock commodities became a priority program due to limited needs and supplies.

Abstract

Oil palm is one of the leading plantation commodities that contributes significantly to the Indonesian economy. Plantation area is one of the main factors influencing oil palm production. This study aimed to analyze the potential of oil palm production based on plantation area in several major oil palm-producing provinces in Indonesia. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed using secondary data from ten major oil palm-producing provinces in Indonesia in 2024. The variables analyzed included plantation area, production, and oil palm productivity. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis, and simple linear regression. The results showed that Riau Province had the largest plantation area and production, reaching 3,490,000 ha and 9,130,000 tons, respectively, while Central Kalimantan recorded the highest productivity at 3.67 tons/ha. Pearson correlation analysis revealed a very strong positive relationship between plantation area and oil palm production, with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.973. Furthermore, simple linear regression analysis produced the equation Y = 2.7218X + 94,434 with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.9476, indicating that 94.76% of the variation in oil palm production could be explained by plantation area.These findings demonstrate that plantation area is the dominant factor affecting oil palm production in the major oil palm-producing provinces of Indonesia. Therefore, increasing oil palm production can be achieved through the optimization of plantation land utilization and improvements in plantation productivity.

Abstract

This study investigated the effect of the sterilization time of Fresh Fruit Bunch (FFB) on the Free Fatty Acid (FFA) content in Crude Palm Oil (CPO). It evaluated its implications for sterilization asset performance. A laboratory-scale experiment was conducted using a manual steam sterilizer heated by a gas stove, resulting in fluctuating sterilization temperatures. Three sterilization durations (30, 45, and 60 min) were tested, each with two replicate groups. Crude oil was extracted using a hydraulic press, and FFA content was determined using alkali titration 0.2 N NaOH and phenolphthalein indicator. The results showed considerable variation in FFA content among treatments. The lowest FFA value (2.50%) was obtained in the 60-min treatment and was the only result that complied with the Indonesian National Standard (SNI 01-2901-2006), which limits FFA content to 5.00%. In contrast, the highest FFA values reached 13.13% and 13.30% in the 45-min and 60-min treatments, respectively. These findings indicate that temperature instability during sterilization had a greater impact on FFA formation than sterilization duration. From an asset management perspective, sterilization equipment is a critical asset whose operational performance directly influences product quality. Therefore, maintaining stable sterilization temperatures is essential for minimizing FFA formation and ensuring consistent CPO quality.
