Abstract

The shipping sector in Indonesia is growing rapidly, but fierce competition and the dominance of foreign vessels are forcing shipping companies to improve fuel efficiency, crew productivity, and revenue. This study aims to conduct an in-depth analysis of the role of fleet management in improving the operational performance of shipping companies. The approach used is qualitative descriptive, with data collection through literature review and interviews. Data analysis is conducted thematically, starting from data reduction, presentation in narrative form, to drawing conclusions to identify patterns. The results of the study show that the implementation of effective fleet management, including route planning, fuel consumption monitoring, and ship maintenance scheduling, can reduce fuel consumption. Crew productivity increases through systematic assignments, continuous training, and the use of fleet monitoring technology, which has a positive impact on shipping safety and delivery smoothness. This impact is also reflected in increased company revenue through reduced operational costs and improved profit margins. The implications of the research findings highlight the importance of an integrated fleet management strategy to enhance operational efficiency, crew productivity, and the competitiveness of shipping companies such as those in Indonesia

Abstract

The Industry 4.0 era, driven by Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), automation, and big data analytics, has significantly transformed the shipping and logistics sector. While digitalization improves efficiency, it also presents challenges in workforce adaptation. According to a 2023 World Economic Forum report, 50% of employees will require reskilling by 2025, yet only 30% of logistics companies have fully embraced digital workforce transformation strategies. This research analyzes human resource (HR) development strategies to equip workers with skills aligned with Industry 4.0 demands. This study uses a qualitative approach, utilizing peer-reviewed journals, industry reports, and government publications. Data analysis follows Miles and Huberman's interactive model, consisting of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, ensuring structured and comprehensive insights. Findings indicate that HR development strategies in the shipping and logistics sector require three key approaches: (1) Enhancing digital competencies through technology training and online learning platforms; (2) Developing adaptive skills, such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and agility, to navigate technological shifts; and (3) Implementing HR technology for recruitment, training, and performance management. Additionally, collaboration with industries and policymakers is essential to accelerate workforce digital transformation. By applying these strategies, the shipping and logistics sector can build a competent, agile workforce, ensuring long-term sustainability and competitiveness in the Industry 4.0 landscape.

Abstract

The Community Service Program (PKM) was carried out at Madrasah Diniyah Takmiliyah (MDT) Al-Karimah, Cibunar Village, Kadudampit District, Sukabumi Regency, West Java. The background of the activity is the problem of limited access to healthy mineral water and the need to improve the economy of the MDT and the surrounding community. The solution of this program is to improve the quality of healthy living through the provision of mineral water based on Reverse Osmosis (RO) technology while empowering the economy of MDT Al-Karimah through the management of drinking water refill depots. The implementation method includes program socialization, technical and managerial training, installation of RO machines with a capacity of ±80 gallons/day, operational assistance, and sustainability evaluation. This activity is participatory, involving students, MDT administrators, and the local community, with the support of the village and sub-district governments. The results of the activity showed that the mineral water produced passed the feasibility test of the Sukabumi Regency Health Office, so it was safe for consumption. The conclusion is that this program has contributed for providing dual benefits, namely improving the quality of public health through access to hygienic drinking water and strengthening the economy of MDT-based communities.
