Abstract

Multicultural families in rural communities face unique challenges in parenting due to differences in cultural values, language, and gender role perceptions. Parenting counseling programs that do not consider multicultural aspects often exacerbate conflicts in families. Therefore, this study aims to explore best practices in culture-based parenting counseling for multicultural families in rural communities. This study used a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation with 10 multicultural families and 5 counselors. Thematic analysis was used to identify key themes of cultural adaptation challenges and practices. The results showed that the main challenges faced by multicultural families were differences in cultural values (45%), language barriers (25%), and differences in gender role perceptions (20%). Open communication practices and empathy-based approaches have proven effective in helping families overcome these differences. Counselors have an important role as mediators in helping multicultural families unite different cultural values in harmonious parenting patterns. This study recommends counselor training to increase cultural sensitivity and the development of counseling programs that are adaptive to cultural differences in rural communities.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of parents in developing early childhood spiritual intelligence in an Islamic education-based family environment. This study used a qualitative approach with a descriptive design, involving 20 parents of young children in Muslim families. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, questionnaires and observation of religious education activities at home. The results showed that mothers have a dominant role in teaching daily prayers, prophet stories and basic worship procedures to their children. However, fathers' involvement in their children's religious education is still limited, with most fathers mostly modeling personal worship without being directly involved in religious teaching activities. The study also found that religious instruction conducted by parents has a positive effect on the development of children's spiritual intelligence, as seen in the children's progress in memorizing prayers and their improved behavior. The study suggests the importance of increasing fathers' involvement in children's religious instruction and encourages the development of programs that involve both parents in early childhood spiritual education.

Abstract

Background: The development of social concern among young generations faces serious challenges due to individualism, digital isolation, and declining empathy. These issues necessitate systematic interventions to cultivate prosocial values and behaviors among school-age adolescents. Objective: This research aims to develop and implement the Bimbingan Remaja Usia Sekolah (BRUS) program as a systematic framework for building social concern among school-age adolescents through an integrated guidance approach.Method: The study employed a qualitative design with a phenomenological approach involving 28 adolescent participants aged 13-18 years, 9 program facilitators, and 6 school personnel across six secondary schools. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, participant observation, and document analysis, then analyzed using a thematic analysis approach.Findings and Implications: Results demonstrated that the 16-week BRUS program successfully enhanced social concern across cognitive, affective, and behavioral dimensions significantly. Participants showed increased frequency in volunteering activities (350%), informal helping behaviors (280%), and social issue advocacy (420%) compared to pre-program baselines. Three-month follow-up data indicated that 75% of participants maintained significantly elevated levels of prosocial engagement. The BRUS program provides theoretical contributions to adolescent character development and offers practical instruments for educators, counselors, and policymakers to integrate social concern development into school-based educational systems. Conclusion: The BRUS program demonstrates effectiveness in cultivating social concern among adolescents, ultimately contributing to developing socially responsible and empathetic young generations.

Abstract

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly increased anxiety-related disorders, particularly claustrophobia. Factors like prolonged lockdowns and mask-wearing have triggered or exacerbated claustrophobic symptoms, even in individuals without prior tendencies. The importance of developing evidence-based counseling strategies to address such post-pandemic mental health issues is crucial. Objective: This study aims to document and assess the effectiveness of a multimodal counseling strategy for treating claustrophobia that emerged or intensified during the pandemic. The goal is to provide a practical framework for addressing this specific phobia in clinical practice.Method: A case study methodology was employed, focusing on a 32-year-old female who exhibited severe claustrophobic symptoms post-pandemic. A 12-session intervention integrated cognitive-behavioral techniques, psychoeducation, graduated exposure, and mindfulness-based strategies. Data collection included standardized measures and self-reports across multiple assessment points.Findings and Implications: The treatment resulted in a 72% reduction in claustrophobia severity and significant improvements in general anxiety and stress levels. The integration of multiple therapeutic approaches proved effective in reducing symptoms and improving functional capacity. These findings suggest that multimodal interventions can be a robust solution for pandemic-induced claustrophobia and other anxiety disorders. Conclusion: The study highlights the effectiveness of multimodal counseling for claustrophobia, demonstrating significant symptom reduction and functional recovery. The results offer a clinically replicable framework for treating claustrophobia in post-pandemic contexts and suggest directions for future research and practice.
