Abstract

Kata kunci   :  daun rumput belang, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli dan Shigella dysenteriae ABSTRACT A research on the testing of the ethanol extract of the leaves of rumput belang on the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Shigella dysenteriae. Striped grass (Zebrina pendula Schnizl.) Is an ornamental plant cultivation is very easy so that the plant can be found in lowland and highland. Empirically the leaves of rumput belang have properties among others, to overcome dysentery and ulcers. Results of testing the 96% ethanol extract against Staphylococcus aureus provide the biggest obstacle at a concentration of 60% = 11.69 ± 0.57 (mm), Escherichia coli provide the biggest obstacle at a concentration of 80% = 12.83 ± 0.68 (mm), Shigella dysenteriae provide the biggest obstacle at a concentration of 80% = 12.81 ± 0.43 (mm). Class examination results of chemical constituents in the leaves of rumput belang extracts are flavonoids, polyphenols, quinones, monoterpenoid-sesquiterpenoids and steroid-triterpenoid compounds. Keywords : the leaves of  rumput belang, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Shigella dysenteriae

Abstract

Microbial on food are caused by various factors such as nutrients, water, and temperature. If total amount of microbes increase it would damage food and if it ingested could affect grastrointestinal track. Snack, especially unregistered snack such as syrup in school is one of important problem to concerned. The purpose of this study is to detect the present of Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella in syrup in four elementary schools in Cimahi. Detection of Staphylococcus aureus is done using BPA medium, while detection of Salmonella is using Indol test, methyl red test, Voges Proskauer test, Citrate test and Gram staining. The result shows that the syrup from the elementary school contains Staphylococcus aureus but not all of samples of syrup give positive result of Salmonella. Based on the requirements which in set in SNI that microbes in syrup should not be contain to Staphylococcus aureus is negative/ml and Salmonella is negative/25 ml, then syrup that sold in all four elementary schooldi not qualified.
