Abstract

Background: Lengthy therapeutic regimens in leprosy are prone to defaults, contributing to more antibiotic-resistant Mycobacterium. Intervening patients’ medical habits midway would be more complicated than understanding their perception of undergoing such regimens in advance. We study the factors considered relevant to leprosy patients’ compliance to construct a novel self-reporting questionnaire that can predict the patients’ adherence before initiating multidrug therapy. Methods: According to the Delphi methods, we conducted three rounds of interviews with twenty-three respondents from various backgrounds, including dermatologists, government officials, healthcare workers, and patients with leprosy, to infer the associated factors of the included items. Each item was scored using the Likert scale, and accepted items (scores above 75%) were classified into six-dimensional categories based on the health belief model theory. Result: The initial 236 items were simplified to 72 items. Then, a panel discussion was conducted to score each item. Finally, 48 items were accepted and categorized into 12 indicators from 6 dimensions. The 12 indicators encompass knowledge about leprosy, its severity, therapeutical options, stigma, challenges in the treatment maintenance, availability of medical facilities and workers, therapeutic impact, drug regulation, health personnel, personal beliefs, attitude, and motivation. (p Conclusion: The study identified 12 critical factors influencing adherence to leprosy treatment, contributing to the prevention of antibiotic-resistant mycobacterium and providing valuable insights through the predictive self-reporting questionnaire.

Abstract

The research was carried out because educators did not use comics media at SDN 010 Kuantan Sako. The lack of student interest in learning caused some students to be slow to read properly and correctly. This research was carried out to make students who are dynamic and interested in starting to read carefully in the learning process, one of which is by making comic media. This research is development research (R&D) with the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The approach used is a qualitative approach and a quantitative approach that uses two methods of data collection: observation and interview. This research was conducted by testing the validity of 6 expert validators: two media validators, two language validators, and two material validators. The results of the media expert validity test are 95.31%, the linguist validity test is 92.18%, and the material expert validity test results are 89.06%, with a final average of 92.18%. So based on the comic media validity test, six validators showed valid results and were suitable for use in the learning process.

Abstract

Background: Port-wine stains (PWS), or capillary malformations (CM), are congenital vascular anomalies characterized by gradual enlargement of the superficial cutaneous vascular plexus, leading to low-flow malformations in the skin. Laser therapy remains the preferred treatment for PWS. The 577-nm vascular laser system is particularly suited for treating cutaneous vascular disorders. This study evaluates the efficacy of the 577-nm vascular laser for both superficial and deep PWS lesions. Case Illustration: Three adult patients, all aged over 17 years old, were treated with the 577-nm laser. In the first case with deeper PWS, four treatment sessions resulted in flattening of hypertrophic areas, leaving residual red patches. In the second case, complete clearance of the PWS was achieved after eight treatment sessions. In the third case, additional treatment with the 577-nm laser was administered after a device targeting deeper vascular structures was employed. Discussion: The 577-nm vascular laser is safe for use in dark-skinned patients, with a short downtime and low risk of scarring and post-inflammatory erythema. For lesions deeper than 0.8 mm, other treatment modalities should be considered. Early intervention can help prevent the development of hypertrophic or nodular components. Multiple 577-nm laser sessions can minimize progression and provide significant improvement. Treatment success depends on clinical conditions, appropriate laser parameters, and timing. Conclusion: The 577-nm vascular laser is effective and safe for treating PWS, particularly in dark-skinned individuals. Early intervention and multiple sessions are the key to preventing progression and achieving optimal results. Deeper lesions may require alternative laser modalities.
