Abstract

This article explores the significant impact of the radical feminist movement in Iran following the tragic death of Mahsa Ahmini. This incident sparked widespread international protests and shed light on the unjust treatment of women in Iran. The study employs a qualitative research method with descriptive analysis, and the authors use library research for the collection of data. The findings of this research reveal that the radical feminist movement in Iran has gained strength since Mahsa Ahmini’s passing, marked by numerous demonstrations led by feminist activists advocating for justice and reforms in the discriminatory legal framework. This movement fights for women’s rights, including political and public participation and the right to make decisions about their own lives. The research conclusion underscores the role of social media and technology in bolstering the radical feminist movement in Iran, facilitating information access and communication. Nevertheless, the movement faces formidable challenges, including threats and harassment from authorities and a society that still objectifies and marginalizes women. Consequently, this research underscores the crucial role of the radical feminist movement in driving change and reshaping the societal and legal systems that perpetuate gender discrimination in Iran.

Abstract

Abstracts Gender segregation manifests in two different ways: horizontal segregation, which reflects the disproportionate representation of women and men in specific jobs or industries, and vertical segregation, which is seen in leadership hierarchies where men dominate managerial roles. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) estimates that nearly 100 million women in Asia are degraded due to discriminatory practices. Research from the International Labour Organization (ILO) also revealed job advertisements that were gender-biased and prioritized male candidates, thus perpetuating stereotypical job roles. Focusing on India, Indians, and Vietnam, this research investigates the alarming statistics demonstrating a gender gap. In Vietnam, women hold only a few positions in parliament and face a pay gap based on gender bias. Research in Indonesia highlights that women rarely occupy leadership roles and that working conditions tend to be discriminatory. In India, urban areas experience high gender segregation based on employment gaps. Patriarchal social norms and cultural biases increasingly contribute to women's subordinate roles. Through qualitative research based on library data collection, this research seeks to comprehensively analyze and overcome the complex challenges posed by gender segregation in the labor market in the three Indo-Pacific countries. These three countries are exciting representations of how gender segregation can be seen and depicted in real terms through the very high number of workers in these three countries. This research concludes that gender segregation in the workforce is a fundamental form that is difficult to eradicate. However, a comprehensive multi-sector role can be an alternative form of effort to reduce gender disparities in the workforce.

Abstract

In the present-day era, the notion of human development is a key concept that has been continuously pursued by various nations, including Indonesia. Nonetheless, there are still numerous regions and communities in the outermost, foremost, and disadvantaged areas that have yet to fully experience the benefits of development. To support the process of human development, it is crucial to establish a synergistic collaboration across multiple sectors, involving not only the government but also the private sector, academia, and the local community. The Muyu tribe, residing in Ninati Village, Ninati District, Boven Digoel Regency, South Papua, represents an indigenous community situated on the brder between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea (PNG) that is currently making strides towards enhancing human development. In response to this pressing need, academics from Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana (UKSW) and several other stakeholders have taken the initiative to empower the indigenous people of Muyu tribe. Though on-site research and remote empowerment process, the involvement of UKSW academics and other parties aims to facilitate empowerment and foster various aspects of human development by harnessing the indigenous people inherit potential.

Abstract

The influence of global warming on the climate crisis presents a significant challenge that affects not only governments but also communities and individuals at grassroots level. Relying solely on government actions as the primary solution for a better Earth is insufficient. Instead, we can see initiatives led by private organizations and individuals as important contributors to addressing the cimate crisis. For instance, emphasizing the importance of environmental conservation, such as tree planting, plays a key role in tackling this issue. As a demonstration of our commitment, during the 2023 Student Orientation (OMB) at Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana (UKSW), partnered with the Djarum Foundation Community Service (BLDF) to engage in tree planting activities across Salatiga. This endeavor also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). One of the pivotal locations for tree planting was the Tingkir Tengah, Salatiga, an area characterized by arid and barren landscapes that urgently require collaborative efforts from the government, private sector, and society at large.

Abstract

Abstract This paper attempts to investigate the condition of a plural society in Indonesia, which still suffers from horizontal tensions. These conflict will eventually jeopardize the state’s integrity because they will reproduce intolerance. Tolerance is the most important factor in achieving religious harmony in Indonesia. Harmonious spaces can be created through tolerance. The Gusdurian Community, which seeks to continue Gus Dur’s spirit in spreading the values of tolerance and peace, is one of the activists who want to realize these values. This paper will use a qualitative research method with a descriptive analytical type of exposure to present a case study of the representation of tolerance through the Gusdurian Community-GKJW church relationship. The author's main focus in conducting the analysis will be the concept of tolerance. The author's use of the concept of tolerance ultimately leads to the conclusion that tolerance is the primary requirement for achieving harmony in a pluralistic society. Tolerance is also manifested through the Gusdurian Community-GKJW church relationship as a form of education for a pluralistic society to present and mainstream tolerant attitudes in religious life.

Abstract

Initiatives to promote democracy in Indonesia continue to face several difficulties and hurdles. One of the major concerns is the emergence of radical ideas arising and hiding under the guise of democracy. Due to globalization, radicalism has evolved rapidly and taken on new forms. Considerable efforts are needed to maintain democratization in Indonesia, according to Pancasila, the foundational philosophical theory. This qualitative research uses descriptive analysis and data-gathering methods based on a review of current literature, such as news, journal articles, and books. The findings show that radical ideology in Indonesia has evolved and penetrated government bodies and people’s social lives. Terrorist-affiliated radical organizations, many of which have been disbanded, morphed into different forms to adapt to the community’s social lives. The transformation of radicalism in Indonesia necessitates a concerted effort on the part of the government as a state entity capable of deradicalizing education and preventing radical ideology.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study examines Indonesia’s involvement in leveraging the South-South Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) as innovative development governance to promote the clean and renewable energy (EBT) transition in Indonesia, with a focus on partnership in the use of geothermal energy. Partnership within the SSTC framework includes governmental actors, including Indonesia, Germany, and Kenya, as well as coordination with non-state actors. The issue of development inclusivity is frequently a major impediment to achieving equal development in all sectors. Although the notion of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has emerged as one of the driving factors of sustainable development, many barriers, such as funding issues and knowledge and technological limits, frequently highlight the inequality in growth in Global South countries. This study employs a qualitative research method with a descriptive analysis designation, as well as a literature study data-gathering approach to gather primary and secondary data. The author conducts the analysis study using postcolonial international relations theory as one perspective that can explain the underlying challenges of global development in Global South countries. Furthermore, the author employs the SSTC concept as an alternative form of development oriented toward Global South solidarity in order to achieve more inclusive development, such as the Indonesia-Germany-Kenya trilateral cooperation in realizing a clean and renewable energy transition, with a primary focus on Indonesia.

Abstract

This paper attempts to discuss the importance and necessity of social solidarity in societal structure during times of crisis. Learning from the conditions of the COVID-19 Pandemic in Indonesia, particularly in Central Java Province in 2019-2022, which continues to increase due to COVID-19 virus mutation into various variants such as Delta and Omicron, reveals a very concerning situation. When COVID-19 cases continued to rise in various cities and districts throughout Central Java, the Governor of Central Java, Ganjar Pranowo, issued a policy known as ‘Jogo Tonggo’ (Javanese), which translates to 'Take care of your neighbors' in Indonesian. This policy has been shown to be effective in assisting health workers and reducing the government’s burden in dealing with a pandemic. This paper will be analyzed through Emile Durkheim’s concept of Social Solidarity through a literature review, which can further demonstrate that social solidarity in Indonesian society has proven to function well as social resilience when a crisis such as the COVID-19 Pandemic occurs.
