Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the application of a project-based learning model on physics material "transformer/transformer" on the learning outcomes of students of class XII SMAN 5 de Maio Becora TP 2022. This type of research in terms of sample data is a type of quantitative research. The sample of this research is the XII grade students of Ensino Secundário Geral Publico 05 de Maio Becora, Díli, Timor-Leste as many as 30 people who are divided into two classes, namely 15 people for the experimental class and 15 people for the control class. The experimental class is a class where in the implementation of the teaching and learning process, the teacher applies a project-based learning model. While the control class is the teacher applying conventional model. The results of data analysis showed that students in the experimental class obtained a t_count value greater than the t_count in the control class, namely 16.362> 3.292. This indicates that the learning outcomes of Physics students in the experimental class are better than the control class. Therefore, it can be concluded that the project-based learning model is very effective in applying the physics material "transformer/transformer" because it can make students active and creative in understanding concepts and principles, able to investigate problems related to and find solutions relevant to physics material, and make students learn independently, to obtain excellent learning outcomes. The results of this study indicate that there is a significant influence on the experimental class with the application of the PjBL-based learning model on the learning outcomes of students of class XII Ensino Secundário Geral Publico 05 Becora Dili, Timor-Leste in the 2022 teaching year

Abstract

The objectives of this study include knowing the effect of Laboratory Activities (KL) on the understanding of physics learning concepts; knowing students' understanding of the use of physics lab equipment. This research method is a descriptive qualitative method that describes the opinions and answers of existing participants. The sample of this study was 25 students, who were divided into 5 groups. Each group carried out all the KL that had been prepared. The instruments used in this study were practicum guides, a questionnaire to collect information and opinions from participants according to the questions that had been prepared. The results of the questionnaire analysis showed that the students had very good skills according to their understanding in preparing and assembling equipment for each KL, regarding the language of instruction (Portuguese) used there were some students who requested that the language of instruction used needed to be adjusted to the understanding of students because it was quite difficult for them to understand. The students were successful in implementing KL in the laboratory. The conclusion from the results of this study is that laboratory activities are learning facilities that have a very important role in helping students understand physics theories and concepts well.

Abstract

The low quality of education in schools, especially in science subjects, is attributed to the insufficient competence of science teachers in addressing learning challenges. Teachers are perceived as unresponsive and employ monotonous teaching methods, making the learning process dull. The issue of educational quality is also influenced by the lack of consistent motivation and discipline among students. As leaders in the classroom, teachers play a key role in influencing students' interests and learning outcomes. Creative teachers using varied methods can enhance students' learning interests. This writing highlights the importance of a contextual approach in physics education, making the material more relevant and engaging for students, boosting motivation, and strengthening problem-solving skills. The research utilizes a quantitative method with questionnaires and documentation to assess the impact of the contextual learning approach on motivation and physics learning achievement. The results show a positive and significant effect of the contextual learning approach on motivation and physics learning achievement. Consequently, teachers need to implement a teaching approach relevant to student's daily lives and encourage intrinsic motivation to improve their physics learning achievement. This research provides crucial insights for the development of teaching methods and an understanding of the factors influencing the quality of education in Timor-Leste.

Abstract

Learning difficulties are disorders experienced by students due to various obstacles such as intellectual abilities, demands of academic institutions, family economic conditions, and employment that result in low learning outcomes. This study aims to identify the factors that cause learning difficulties for students of batch 2023 in the Ensino de Física Study Programme at the National University of East Timor, especially in the General Physics and Eksperiment 1 courses. This study used a mixed qualitative and quantitative approach. Data were collected through an open-ended questionnaire filled out by 50 students as a sample. The results showed that the study programme placement factor was one of the main causes of learning difficulties. Many students were placed in study programmes that were not their choice, resulting in low interest in learning. In addition, students' mathematical intellectual abilities also play a significant role, where most students do not master basic mathematics such as multiplication, division, and differential. This causes them difficulty in solving physics problems mathematically and in conducting Eksperiments to test concepts, laws and formulas that have been learnt. Students' learning difficulties are influenced by external factors such as the mismatch of study programme placement with students' choices, and internal factors such as intellectual abilities in basic mathematics and physics. Nevertheless, most students showed interest in attending the class, which can help overcome learning difficulties and have a positive impact on end-of-semester learning outcomes.
