Abstract

In the evolving landscape of renewable energy, the management of agricultural biomass supply chains has emerged as a critical success factor for sustainable fuel production, this article presents a critical review of the research conducted by Nugroho and Zhu (2024) regarding the strategic supply and transportation planning of an agricultural biomass supply chain for hydrogen and syngas production. The primary study addresses a significant gap in renewable energy management by proposing a bi-level optimization framework that utilizes Stackelberg game concepts to model non-cooperative interactions between biofuel producers and biomass suppliers. The review identifies several methodological strengths, including the integration of process-level material balances with supply chain decisions and the use of mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) to handle realistic cost components like holding and production costs. However, the analysis also highlights critical limitations, such as restrictive behavioral assumptions regarding risk neutrality and perfect information, which may not reflect real-world opportunistic conduct. Furthermore, the generalizability of the findings is constrained by a narrow focus on an Indonesian case study and a dual-sourcing strategy that may face scalability issues in larger regional networks. Ultimately, while the reviewed work is deemed an incremental rather than landmark contribution, it offers valuable structured recommendations for practitioners and project developers building biomass supply chains in agricultural regions.

Abstract

The primary objective of this study is to systematically evaluate, analyze, and synthesize prior research regarding upcycling as a strategic marketing tool for sustainability in the fashion industry.. This study employs a critical review methodology to rigorously assess the strengths, weaknesses, and methodological validity of selected literature, with the objective of identifying theoretical gaps and inconsistencies within the current body of knowledge. Main findings reveal that while the existing literature demonstrates strengths, such as comprehensive topic coverage, practical real-world brand examples, and a clear examination of greenwashing, it suffers from several significant critical weaknesses. Specifically, the findings highlight severe methodological limitations, an overreliance on non-academic sources, and a problematic conflation of strategic marketing with genuine sustainability practices.

Abstract

This study investigates the determinants of ecotourism satisfaction and their effects on revisit intention and green advocacy within the context of Indonesia’s green economy. Drawing upon the Theory of Planned Behavior, the study examines the roles of ecological knowledge, green infrastructure, green marketing communication, green experience, and environmental concern in shaping tourists’ satisfaction and subsequent behavioral intentions. A quantitative research design was employed, and data were collected from 355 visitors to Indonesian ecotourism destinations using purposive sampling. The proposed model was analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings reveal that ecological knowledge, green infrastructure, green marketing communication, and environmental concern significantly enhance ecotourism satisfaction, whereas green experience has no significant effect. Furthermore, ecotourism satisfaction significantly influences revisit intention and green advocacy and mediates most indirect relationships between the ecological antecedents and behavioral outcomes, except those involving green experience. These findings extend the Theory of Planned Behavior by integrating ecological, contextual, and moral determinants into a comprehensive framework for sustainable tourist behavior. The study also provides practical insights for destination managers and policymakers to strengthen sustainable tourism strategies through environmental education, green infrastructure, and effective sustainability communication.
