Abstract

ABSTRACTIn the swamp area of the Sawah village, there are settlements, agriculture and farms that flew their liquid waste to the swamp and polluting that area. To understand the water quality of the swamp based on macrozoobenthos community, a research was conducted in March-April 2018. The method used is survey method. The location of the sampling is determined using purposive sampling. Samples taken with PVC pipe ( 7 cm diameter), then it was sieved and sorted by hand. Captured macrozoobenthos was preserved with formalin 10%.Parameters measured were the abundance, diversity index, dominance index, and uniformity index. Water quality parameters measured were temperature, transparency, depth, pH, and dissolved oxygen. There were 3 stations and in each station, there were 3 sampling points. Macrozoobenthos and water were sampled 3 times, once/week. Result shown that there were 4 types of macrozoobenthos present, namely Annelids (Hirudo sp.), crustaceans(Macrobachium sp.), insects(Ablesmyia sp.) and oligochaete(Lumbricus sp.). The abundance of macrozoobenthos ranged from 59 -113 organisms/m2, diversity index was 0.930-1.740, dominance index was 0.651–0.3524, and uniformity index was 0.588–0.870. The water quality parameters were as follow: temperature 29 – 30 0C, transparency 57- 62 cm, depth 1.22-0.97 m, pH  5 and dissolved oxygen 4.7-4.5 mg/L. Data obtained indicate that the water of the Sawah Village is moderately polluted. Keywords :swamporganism, swamp pollution, diversity index, purposive sampling

Abstract

ABSTRACTMangrove forests in the Sungai Rawa Village has been degraded due to anthropogenic activities. Decrement in mangrove ecosystem will negatively affects the aquatic organims in general, including the gastropods present in that area. To understand the community structure of gastropods in that mangrove ecosystem, a research was conducted on March 2018. There were 3 line transects and in each line there were 5 plots (1mx1m). The gastropods in the plots were collocted manually for 3 weeks. Result shown that there were 11 gastropods species present, they were Cassidula aurifelis, Cerithidea cingulata,      Cerithidea obtusa, Chicoreus capucinus, Ellobium aurisjudae,                        Ellobium aurismidae, Littoraria melanostoma, Littoraria scabra, Nerita balteata, Neritina carnucopia and Telescopium telescopium. The gastropods density was ranged from 9 - 15 organisms/m2. The value of species richness index (Da) was 4.16 - 4.21, the diversity index (H’) was 2.99 - 3.13, the dominance index (C) was 0.12 - 0.14 and the uniformity index (E) was 0.90 - 0.93. The water quality parameters were as follows: temperature was 27 - 29ºC; pH was 7.3 - 7.7 and salinity was 26 - 27.3º/oo. Gastropods community structure in the mangrove ecosystem of the Sungai Rawa Village was good and there was no dominant species.  Keywords: Diversity Index, Mollusca Community, Gastropods Population, Mangrove Forests

Abstract

Abstract  Asian softshell turtle ( Amyda cartilaginea) used to nest in the Indragiri River bank, especially in the Lubuk Terentangvillage. Characteristics of nesting area preferred by the softshell turtles, however are almost unknown. A research aimed to understand the nesting area characteristic ofthe turtlewas conducted from May- June 2018, coincidence with the nesting time of the turtles. Parameters studied were the slope of theriver bank, distance between the nest andwater edge, sand texture, types of vegetation around the nest, number of nest present and water quality of the IndragiriRiver. Results shown that the softshell turtle nestswere found only in the Eastern part of the Lubuk Terentangvillage. The River bank slopein the nesting area ranged from 1.56–1.72%, distance between water edge and the nest ranged from 29 – 31.5 m, substrate texture was dominated by sand (>91%), the number of nest present in Eastern was 3 nest, the nest temperature was 29–38 0C and nest humidity was 45–75 %. Water quality of the Indragiri River are as follows: temperature was29-330C, current speedwas0.14- 0.35 m/s, turbidity was 12.99- 20.75 FTUand pH was 6. In this research turtle nests were found in sandy areas with few vegetation. Keywords :river bank slope, reptil, river bank, softshell turtle nest
