Abstract

This research was conducted from October to Desember 2014 in the Koto Panjang Reservoir Tanjung Alai Village and aims to understand the relation phytoplankton abundance and water quality around the fish cage aquaculture activities. There were 3 stations and 3 sampling points in each station. Water samples were taken 3 times, once/ week. Water quality parameters measured were water temperature, brigthness, DO, pH, nitrate and phospate. Phytoplankton were identified based on Yunfang (1995) and Sachlan (1980). Results shown that there were 4 classes present (3.067–6.275 cell/L), namely Chlorophyceae (12 genus), Bacillariophyceae (8 genus), Cyanophyceae (7 genus), and Xanthophyceae (2 genus). Water quality parameters are as follows temperature: 29.0–30.0 0C, brigthness: 72.7–137.9 cm, DO : 4.7–5. 3 mg/L, pH : 4.7–5.3, nitrate: 0.026–0.030 mg/L, and phosphate : 0.3–0.4 mg/L. It can be concluded that the phytoplankton abundance will be increased as the fish cages amount.Keyword: Phytoplankton Abundance, Koto Panjang Reservoir, Tanjung Alai Village

Abstract

In floating cage fish culture activities, fish feed remains and feces are freed to surrounding water. Degradation of these materials decreases the water quality in general. To understand the water quality in general, a research was conducted from April to May 2015. This research aims to determine the water quality in the dam site of Koto Panjang dam, based on Chemical Index (Kirchoff, 1991). There were three stations. In each station water samples were collected from 3 different depths, in the surface; secchi depths and 2 secchi depths. Water samples were taken 3 times/ week. Water quality parameters measured were temperature, conductivity, brightness, pH, dissolved oxygen, BOD5, nitrate, phosphate and ammoniac. Results shown that water quality in the research area are as follows : Temperature 29-310C, conductivity 24.7-26.6 μS/cm, brightness 100-176 cm, pH 5-6, dissolved oxygen 4.4-6.2 mg/L, BOD5 3.2-10.2 mg/L, nitrate 0.049-0.298, phosphate 0.03-0.087 mg/L, dan ammoniac 0.03-0.182 mg/L. The value of the Chemical index was 44.19-52.97, indicates that this reservoir is fairly polluted.Keywords : Reservoir of Koto Panjang, Water Quality, Chemical Index

Abstract

Watas Hutan Lake is one of the oxbow lakes in the Kampar Regency. In the areas around the lake, there are activities such as oil palm, rubber and banana plantations. To understand the water quality in general, a research was conducted from April to May 2015. This research aims to determine the water quality of the lake based on physical and chemical characteristics and makrozoobenthos community structure. There were three stations, 3 sampling points/ station. Water samples were taken 3 times, once/ week. Parameters measured were abundance, uniformity and dominancy index of the macrozoobenthos and several water quality parameters such as temperature, turbidity, depth, total suspended solid, pH, dissolved oxygen, BOD5, nitrate, phosphate, substrate type, and organic materials. Results shown that there were 12 species (4 classes) of macrozoobenthos, with abundance 353 organisms /m2. There were Oligochaeta (4 species), Insects (3 species), Gastropods (3 species), and Bivalves (2 species). In general, the H' was 2.62-2.82; C was 0.17-0.19 and E was 0.79-0.85. Water quality parameters are as follows : temperature 29-300C, turbidity 4.00-6.30 NTU, depths 1.29-4.03 cm, TSS 4.00-5.30 mg/L, pH 5, dissolved oxygen 2.00-2.73 mg/L, BOD5 5.20-5.50 mg/L, nitrate 0.04-0.06 mg/L and phosphate 0.75-1.14 mg/L. The value of WQI-NSF index of the Watas Hutan Lake was 22.21-24.83, indicates that this river is badly polluted. There was muddy substrate with 39.03-42.20% organic materials content in each area. Based on the values of H’, C and E in the macrozoobenthos community, it can be concluded that the aquatic ecosystem in the Watas Hutan Lake is balance.Keyword: Watas Hutan Lake, Macrozoobenthos, Water quality, WQI-NSF

Abstract

Periphyton is a type of algae that commonly inhabit the surface of immersed objects. A research aims to understand the periphyton community (types and abundance) in the seagrass ecosystem of the Malang Rapat Village has been conducted in May 2015. Samplings were conducted 3 times in 3 stations. In each station there were 3 transeck lines with 5 quadrants (1 m x 1 m) in each line. Periphyton samples were taken by scraping the seagrass surface by tooth brush in the area of 5x2 cm2. Periphyton collected were then preserved in lugol 2-3 drop/40 ml and then was identified.Result shown that there were 33 periphyton species present and they are belonged to 4 classes, namely Bacillariophyceae (28 species), Chlorophyceae (2 species), Cyanophyceae (2 species) and Dinophyceae (1 species). Periphyton abundance was 13,976-29,228 cells/ cm2. In general, the H’ was 3.941-4.252; C was 0.063-0.090 and E was 0.815-0.873. The water quality parameters are as follows: temperature was 30.67-31.34 0C; brightness was 0.27-0.35 m; turbidity was 1.39-1.79 NTU; current speed was 0.11-0.12 m/s; depth was 0.27-0.35 m; pH was 8; DO was 7.60-7.96 mg/L; free CO2 was 4.3-4.8 mg/L; salinity was 30.4-30.67 ‰; nitrate was 0.026-0.031 mg/L and phosphate was 0.048-0.123 mg/L. Based on periphyton community, it can be concluded that the aquatic environment in the waters of Trikora Beach, Malang Rapat Village is balance.Keyword : Periphyton, Seagrass Ecosystem, Malang Rapat Village

Abstract

Siak river is one of the most polluted river in Riau. To understand the water quality in general, a research on the water quality of the river based on Kirchhof Chemical Index was conducted from December 2015 to February 2016. There were four stations. In each station water samples were collected from 3 sites, 3 times, once/week. Water quality parameters measured were temperature, conductivity, transparency, pH, dissolved oxygen, BOD5, ammoniac, nitrate, and phosphate concentration. Results shown that water quality in the research area are as follows : temperature 28.94-29.51°C, transparency 35.06-37.04 cm, depth 8.57-12.75 m, conductivity 55.43-58.87μS/cm, pH 5, dissolved oxygen 2.13-2.28 mg/L, BOD5 7.43-12.14 mg/L, ammoniac 0.50-0.75 mg/L, nitrate 0.58-0.78 mg/L and phosphate 0.07-0.22 mg/L. The value ofthe Kirchhof Chemical index was 23.80-31.19, indicates that this river is medium to highly polluted.Keywords : Siak River, Water Quality, Kirchhof Chemical Index

Abstract

Kampar Kiri River is located in Riau, there are fisheries and domestic activities that potential in affecting water quality. To understand the abundance of phytoplankton present in that river, a study has been conducted in July 2016. Samplings were conducted 3 times, once week, in 3 stations. Results shown that there are 11 species of phytoplankton present in the river. They were classified into three classes, `namely: Bacillariophyceae (4 species), Chloropyhceae (3 species) and Cyanophyceae (4 species). The average of phytoplankton abundance was around 359 – 1,392 cells/L. While the water quality parameters are as follows: temperature: 30 - 310C, transparency: 15.6 – 22.6 cm, pH: 6, DO: 3.8 - 4.1 mg/L, nitrate: 0.05 - 0.11 mg/L and phosphate: 0.19 - 0.23 mg/L. Based on the composition of pyhtoplankton, it can be concluded that the Kampar Kiri River water can be categorized as low.Keyword : Phytoplankton, Kampar Kiri River, Water Quality,

Abstract

ABSTRAKIn the upstream of the Siak River, there are various activities, such as palm plantations, palm oil industry, fishcapture andwater transportation that  produce pollutant and thus affect the water quality. A research aims to determine the quality and quality status of the upstream waters of the Siak River, a study was conducted from April-May 2017. The  water was sampled at 3 stations, with 3 replications. Water quality parameters measured were temperature, pH, current speed, dissolved oxygen, depth, and brightness (in the field), BOD5, COD, TSS, Nitrate, Phosphate, Oil and Fat (in laboratory). Results shown thatthe BOD5 is 16.7 - 38.9 mg/L and oil and fat content was 86,000-339,000 mg/L, these values are higher that that of the standard issued by the Indonesian government. The water temperature ranges from 30-31oC, pH5, current speed 0.3-0.4cm/s, dissolved oxygen 3.1-4.4 mg/L, depth 4-5 m, brightness 35-61cm, COD 8.5-17.6 mg/ L, nitrate 0.56-1.29 mg/L and phosphate 0.24-0.28 mg/L.based on data obtained, it can be concluded that upstream of the Siak River is classified as moderately polluted (score ranged from -20 to - 22). Key words: polluted river,palm oil industry, oil dan fat

Abstract

ABSTRACT            Barbodes schawanefeldii was commonly inhabit the Indragiri River. A research aims to understand the population of B. schawanefeldii in that river was conducted in July 2018. Fish was sampled everyday for 10 days, using gill nets and cast net. The population estimation was analyzed using a Leslie Method. Results shown that the initial population (No) of the fish was 446 kg and the final population (Nt)   was 431 kg. The maximum value that can be exploited was 223 kg and the utilization rate was 7%.  The water quality parameter shown that temperature 27-29 °C, current speed 25.9-28.5 cm/s, and depth 3.55-3.87 m. Data on water quality parameters indicate that water quality in the Indragiri River is able to support the life of   B. schawanefeldii . Keywords : Leslie method, Maximum value, Utilization rate, Exploitation rate

Abstract

 Abstract  Asian softshell turtle ( Amyda cartilaginea) used to nest in the Indragiri River bank, especially in the Lubuk Terentangvillage. Characteristics of nesting area preferred by the softshell turtles, however are almost unknown. A research aimed to understand the nesting area characteristic ofthe turtlewas conducted from May- June 2018, coincidence with the nesting time of the turtles. Parameters studied were the slope of theriver bank, distance between the nest andwater edge, sand texture, types of vegetation around the nest, number of nest present and water quality of the IndragiriRiver. Results shown that the softshell turtle nestswere found only in the Eastern part of the Lubuk Terentangvillage. The River bank slopein the nesting area ranged from 1.56–1.72%, distance between water edge and the nest ranged from 29 – 31.5 m, substrate texture was dominated by sand (>91%), the number of nest present in Eastern was 3 nest,the nest temperature was 29–38 0C and nest humidity was 45–75 %. Water quality of the Indragiri River are as follows: temperature was29-330C, current speedwas0.14- 0.35 m/s, turbidity was 12.99- 20.75 FTUand pH was 6. Abstract

ABSTRACT Telescopiumtelescopiumhas significant ecological and economical rolein the mangrove ecosystem. However, information on the distribution and density ofthis snailis rare. To understand the distribution pattern of this snail in the  mangrove ecosystem of Mengkapan Village, a study has been conducted on February 2018. There were 3 transect lines, in the natural area (S1), in the ecotourism area and human inhabitant area (S2) and in the human activity area (S3). In each line, there were 6 plots (1mx1m). The snails were collected manually once/ 2 weeks, 3 times. Distribution pattern and density of the snail were studied.  Results shown that in the S1 and S3 the snail distributed evenly, while that of the S2 was grouped. Distribution Index value of the snail was 0.09-1.09. The highest density was in the S2 (5.17 organisms/ m2)  and the lowest was in the S1 (4.33 organisms/m2). Keywords: Mangrove organisms, distribution patterns, distribution index,Mengkapanvillage, mangrove snail
