Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a systemic disease that manifests in the oral cavity. This article reports a case of oral manifestations in a patient with uncontrolled type 1 DM. A 41-year-old male with a diagnosis of type 1 DM since adolescence accompanied by ac-quired cystic kidney disease and asthma was admitted to RSUD Prof. Dr. Margono Soekarjo Purwokerto. The patient complained of pain in his oral cavity. The patient's clinical picture showed periodontitis, xerostomia with exfoliative cheilitis, burning mouth syndrome, and halitosis. The patient was treated and received insulin therapy in the form of inject.Humalog, inject.Ezelin, N-ace-tylcysteine, oxygen, salt capsules, and Ca-gluconas. It was concluded that the oral manifestations found in the patient were pe-riodontitis, xerostomia with exfoliative cheilitis, burning mouth syndrome, and halitosis.
