Abstract

This study explores the intricate relationship between uncertainty and corporate investment inefficiencies in the Asia-Pacific region, utilizing data from non-financial firms between 2008 and 2021. The method used in the study is fixed effect regression with Driscoll-Kraay robust standard error. The empirical analysis unveils that uncertainty leads to overinvestment. This phenomenon is more pronounced in middle and low-income economies, while high-income countries display a distinct trend of less susceptibility to uncertainty-induced suboptimal investment choices. The study’s implications extend to policymakers and industry stakeholders, urging a closer examination of firms’ risk management strategies, particularly considering the strategic potential of overinvestment as a buffer against uncertainty’s adverse effects. This holds particular significance in the dynamic economic landscape of the Asia-Pacific countries, where the study contributes to a deeper understanding of the interplay between uncertainty and inefficiency of investment decisions across diverse economic settings.

Abstract

Register refers to a form of language variation specific to a particular community or group. Different language varieties within a community can convey distinct meanings. This paper aims to identify the forms of registers used by pro players from the Onic e-sports team in the online game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and to explain their functions. The data found were 18 registers used by pro players to communicate in the team. The form of the register is classified into two: lingual units of word as many as 15 registers and lingual units of phrase consisting of 3 registers. From these registers there are three functions, namely; a) enhancing communication efficiency, b) boosting hype and atmosphere, and c) facilitating communication among players. Studying these registers is significant as it sheds light on the unique linguistic dynamics of gaming communities, contributing to a deeper understanding of language use in digital and collaborative environments.

Abstract

Although PT XYZ has adopted information technology, it has not formally assessed its governance, leading to persistent issues in IT management, human resource capabilities, and alignment with business processes. This study evaluates IT governance at PT XYZ, a company in the travel and tourism industry, where rapid technological advancements have impacted operations. Using the COBIT 2019 framework, the study assessed IT governance through interviews and literature review, focusing on the domains APO04 – Managed Innovation, BAI02 – Managed Requirements Definition, BAI03 – Managed Solution Identification & Build, and BAI05 – Managed Organizational Change. The results indicate that these domains are at level 2, "Largely Achieved," highlighting areas of improvement. This benchmark provides practical recommendations to enhance IT governance and improve integration between IT and business functions. The findings offer PT XYZ actionable steps to strengthen governance practices, improve organizational performance, and better align technology with strategic business goals.
