Abstract

Language in digital games functions not only as communication but also as a mechanism that regulates interaction and gameplay dynamics. This study aims to investigate system-generated narrator utterances in Mobile Legends by identifying gameplay contexts, analyzing illocutionary act types, and examining the communicative functions conveyed through narrator utterances. This study employed a qualitative descriptive method using Speech Act Theory proposed by John Searle (1979) as the analytical framework. The data consisted of narrator utterances obtained from in-game gameplay in Mobile Legends Season 39 and Season 40, supported by gameplay videos from TikTok. The findings revealed that narrator utterances appeared across various gameplay contexts, particularly role excellence, mechanical skill, and survival kill streak contexts. In terms of illocutionary acts, representative acts were dominant, followed by expressive, directive, and declarative acts, while commissive acts were not identified in the data. Furthermore, narrator utterances functioned to inform, warn, command, motivate players, emphasize achievements, and regulate strategic responses during gameplay. These findings indicate that narrator utterances serve not only as informational announcements but also as communicative and regulatory mechanisms that organize gameplay interaction and support strategic coordination within digital gaming environments.

Abstract

Environmental degradation is not merely an ecological problem but also a moral, spiritual, and educational challenge that requires a value-based response. The Qur’an contains a range of verses that construct an ethical relationship between humans and the natural world, emphasizing stewardship, balance, responsibility, and the prohibition of environmental destruction. This study aims to interpret Qur’anic verses related to environmental love and reconstruct their ecological values as a foundation for developing an Islamic education curriculum. This study employs a qualitative library research method using thematic Qur’anic interpretation (tafsir maudhu’i). Data were collected from relevant Qur’anic verses, classical and contemporary tafsir works, Islamic ecological thought, and literature on Islamic education and curriculum development. The data were analyzed through identification, classification, contextual interpretation, synthesis, and conceptual reconstruction. The study finds that Qur’anic environmental ethics can be reconstructed into five interconnected values: ecological responsibility, compassion toward creation, environmental justice, moderation in resource utilization, and preservation of ecological balance. These values demonstrate that environmental love in the Qur’anic perspective is not merely an emotional attitude but a form of ethical and spiritual responsibility. Their integration into the Islamic education curriculum can strengthen students’ ecological awareness by connecting faith, morality, knowledge, and environmental action. The study contributes a Qur’an-based ecological value framework for developing an Islamic education curriculum that is responsive to contemporary environmental challenges and oriented toward sustainable human–nature relations.

Abstract

Project-based digital storytelling can connect English use with learners’ cultural knowledge, yet relatively few qualitative studies have examined how secondary-school learners experience the process of representing local heritage through English rather than only reporting learning outcomes. This interpretive case study explored three Grade XI students’ experiences of creating English-language digital stories about Nyongkolan, Peresean, and Putri Mandalika in East Lombok, Indonesia. The approximately one-month project combined cultural inquiry, script development, digital production, and reflection. Semi-structured interviews constituted the primary evidence, while classroom observations, reflective journals, and completed digital stories provided contextual information. Data were interpreted using reflexive thematic analysis. Participants described the project as encouraging inquiry beyond classroom materials, particularly through family, community, direct-observation, and online sources. They also reported opportunities to expand culture-related vocabulary, practice narrative writing and spoken narration, and communicate culturally specific meanings in English. Evidence of deeper cultural interpretation was strongest in the Nyongkolan and Peresean accounts, while the available Putri Mandalika evidence more clearly reflected engagement than a comparable change in cultural understanding. The study therefore presents culture-based digital storytelling as a promising, context-sensitive project design for EFL learning, while not claiming measured gains in proficiency or intercultural competence.

Abstract

This study examines the use of figurative language and contextual meaning in Nahdlatul Wathan (NW) poetic verses written by TGKH. Muhammad Zainuddin Abdul Madjid. This topic is important because Wasiat Renungan Masa Pengalaman Baru functions not only as a medium of religious preaching and education, but also as a representation of moral, social, religious, and cultural values conveyed through figurative expressions. The study aims to identify the types of figurative language based on Leech's theory (1969,2014) and analyze their contextual meanings using the theory proposed by Dancygier & Sweetser (2014). This research employed a descriptive qualitative method. The data consisted of Wasiat Renungan Masa Pengalaman Baru verses containing figurative expressions. Data were collected through documentation techniques and analyzed by classifying figurative language types and interpreting their contextual meanings within the religious, cultural, and social context of Sasak society. The findings reveal seven dominant types of figurative language: metaphor, hyperbole, metonymy, simile, personification, litotes, and synecdoche. Metaphor appeared as the most dominant type because it effectively conveyed spiritual, moral, and ideological messages symbolically. Furthermore, the contextual meanings reflected religious values, educational principles, loyalty, socio-cultural identity, and criticism toward political and moral behavior in society. This study contributes to the development of stylistic and contextual semantic studies, particularly in Indonesian local religious literary works.
