Abstract

In 2012, the Central Government of the Republic of Indonesia projected the West Java Strategic Industrial Zone called the Rebana Triangle with 3 points: Cirebon City, Subang Regency, and Majalengka Regency. Since then, a large wave of modern industrialization has entered this area and affected all aspects of community life, including the threat to the existence of local cultural identity. This research aims to explore the meanings of 3 cultural symbols produced by the Jatiwangi Art Factory (JAF), a community of artists based in the Jatiwangi District, Majalengka Regency. Stuart Hall's concept of Cultural Identity serves as the reference basis, and Roland Barthes' Semiotics is used as the research analysis method. The research subjects are JAF, and the research objects are the 3 cultural symbols created by JAF. Data collection was conducted through informal discussions, field observations, the internet, and literature studies from 2000 to 2023. The results of the research show that: the Rampak Genteng Festival is a process of forming strong cultural defenses in mental, geographical, and political spaces. Clay Music is a dominant process of forming defenses in mental space. Meanwhile, Terakota City is the formation of cultural identity defenses in geographical, political, social, and economic spaces.

Abstract

This research critically examines Presidential Regulation No. 87 of 2021, which addresses the accelerated development of the Rebana region in Indonesia. Using Louis Althusser's concept of interpellation and Friedrich Hayek's critique of collectivism, the study explores the ideological and structural frameworks embedded in the regulation. The analysis reveals a centralization of power favoring investors, as evident in the prioritization of infrastructure development and minimal attention to community welfare. While the regulation is justified under Article 4, Section 1 of the Indonesian Constitution, it neglects Article 33, which emphasizes economic equity and collective prosperity.Methodologically, the study combines critical textual analysis with qualitative case studies, focusing on community responses in Jatiwangi, a historically significant area within the Rebana region. Findings highlight a significant power imbalance, with communities coerced into industrial conformity, undermining their traditional livelihoods and cultural heritage. Resistance movements, such as the Jatiwangi Festival, illustrate local efforts to reclaim autonomy and advocate for sustainable development. The study concludes by emphasizing the need for economic planning grounded in Pancasila's humanistic philosophy, ensuring equitable development and community participation. It critiques centralized, investor-centric approaches and advocates for a balanced policy framework that respects individual rights and local agency.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the meaning of perseverance motivation messages contained in the lyrics of the song "Grow Up" by Stray Kids. This research employs a qualitative approach using a constructivist paradigm. The research method applied is Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotic theory, which focuses on the relationship between the signifier and the signified in constructing meaning. The findings indicate that the song "Grow Up" conveys strong messages of perseverance motivation. These meanings are reflected in lyrics that emphasize that failure, mistakes, and feeling of being left behind are natural parts of the growing process. The song highlights the importance of self-acceptance, patience in personal growth, and the belief that everyone has their own pace and path in life. In addition, the consistent emotional support expressed in the lyrics suggest that individuals are not alone in facing life's challenges. Overall, "Grow Up" represents a form of motivational communication that is comforting and empowering, especially for young listeners who are experiencing mental pressure or uncertainty in life. This study is expected to contribute to a deeper understanding of song lyrics as a form of mass communication in delivering motivational messages and supporting mental well-being.
