Abstract

This research was conducted in the waters of Tarabitan Peninsula, West Likupang North Minahasa using quadants transect method. The purpose of this study was to determine the community structure of seagrass found in that waters as initial information for sustainable management seagrass ecosystem . Field observation was conducted to identify the seagrass species, number of individuals/shoots, percent cover for each type of seagrass in those plotting quadrants. The result of this study documented 6 types of seagrass namely, Enhalus acoroides, Thalassia hemprichii, Cymodocea rotundata, Syringodium isoetifolium, Halophila ovalis and Halodule uninervis. The species composition and distribution of seagrass were varied and was dominated by Thalassia hemprichii was the most dominant seagrass species with a relative density of 55.55%, a relative frequency of 33.67%, 39.92% relative cover, an important value index of 129.03%, a diversity index of 1.30 belonging to this condition, moderate, the uniformity index of 0.72 is classified as high and the dominance index of 0.2 is classified as low. Based on Minister of Environment Decree Republic Indonesia No. 200 of 2004 concerning the status of seagrass beds, the condition of the seagrass beds in the waters of Tarabitan Village is classified as rich / healthy with a cover value of ≥ 60. Keywords : Seagrass Community, Species Composition,  distribution, Tarabitan Peninsula           Penelitian ini dilakukan di perairan Semenanjung Tarabitan Likupang Barat Minahasa Utara dengan menggunakan metode transek kuadran.

Abstract

Hard coral is one of the main components of this forming coral reef ecosystem. Bulutui waters have coral reef ecosystems that have a direct role as a source of livelihood for people around these waters. However, there are non-environmentally friendly human activities such as fishing using explosives or chemical solutions that cause coral reef damage. The aimed of this research was to find out the condition of hard coral’s percentage cover and to described the frequency of hard coral’s occurance therefore it’s could be representative data at this location. Coral data was collected by using PIT (Point Intercept Transect) method. The value of percentage cover of hard corals at Bulutui waters are 20.58% and the value is categorized damaged. The total frequency of hard coral’s occurance at station 1 are 66 and dominated by Coral Submassive (CS), at station 2 are 23 and dominated by Coral Massive (CM), at station 3 are 18 and dominated by Coral Foliose (CF) and then at station 4 are 140 and dominated by Coral Foliose (CF).Keywords: Percentage Cover, Scleractinia Coral, Bulutui Waters, PIT Methods.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the composition of nematocysts in the body tissue of the coral fungia, C. vaugani.  The location for the collection of C. vaugani colonies was on the coral reefs of the Malalayang coastal area, Manado. This research was carried out in September - December 2020. The observation of nematocysts of C. vaugani was carried out using an Olympus CX41 microscope with a magnification of x100 objective lens which connected to a computer monitor equipped with an optical view 7 application at the Fish Health Environment and Toxicology Laboratory, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, UNSRAT.  The present results showed that C. vaugani had a composition of nematocysts, namely type I microbasic p-mastigophore (MpM-I) of 40.00%, small type II microbasic p-mastigophore (sMpM-II) of 31.11%, small holotrichous isorhizas (sHI) of 24.44 %, large type II microbasic p-mastigophore (lMpM-II) of 2.22%, and large holotrichous isorhizas (IHI) of 2.22%.  sMpM-II is the most dominant nematocyst type of C. vaugani and this type of nematocyst is thought to be used by coral for aggression and killing prey or predator if there is disturbance from the surrounding aquatic environment where the coral lives.  Further research is recommended to study the types and morphology of nematocyst from various species of coral fungia, including C. vaugani to understand the differences in their types and dimension of the nematocyst. Keywords: Composition, Cycloseris vaugani, Fungia, Manado, nematosit

Abstract

The aim of this study was to know the nematocysts composition of Montipora undata (Scleractinia) which was collected in the Malalayang coastal coral reef, Manado Bay. This research was conducted for three months, from October to December 2020.  Observation of nematocysts was done under an Olympus CX41 microscope with a magnification of x100 objective lens connected to a computer equipped with the application of Optica view 7 at the Laboratory of Fish Health, Environment and Toxicology, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, UNSRAT.  The results showed that  M. undata had the main nematocyst composition, namely microbasic b-mastigophore (MbM) of 60.0 %, small microbasic p-mastigophore type II (sMpM-II) 26.67 %, small holotrichous isorhiza (sHI) 6 ,67 %, large holotrichous isorhiza (lHI) 4.44 %, and large microbasic p-mastigophore type II (lMpM-II) 2.22 %.  MbM is the dominant type of nematocyst for this coral species.  Further studies are suggested to investigate the function of MbM and morphology of nematocysts of various types of corals in the genus Montipora. Keywords: Composition, Manado Bay, Montipora undata, nematocyst, Scleractinia
