Abstract

There are two objectives of this research. First, analyzing the visualization of the character Ajo Kawir in the film Like Revenge, Longing Must Also Be Paid Fully. Second, to analyzing the meaning visualization of Ajo Kawir's character in the film Like Revenge, Longing Must Also Be Paid Completely. This type of research is descriptive qualitative with visual analysis method to explore various visual aspects that describe Ajo Kawir's character, including his physical appearance, facial expressions, gestures, and interactions with the environment and other characters. Data collection techniques using observation and documentation. The data analysis technique of this research is to use studies, namely Charles Sanders Pierce's Semiotics through icons, symbols, and indexes that focus on Ajo Kawir's impotence. The object of this research is the film "Like Revenge, Longing Must Also Be Paid Fully". The results of this study indicate that the impotent disease experienced by the character Ajo Kawir makes him more emotional and tries to cover it up by frequently fighting to show that he is strong. Ajo Kawir was reproached by society that people who have impotence cannot do things that are brave and strong beyond normal limits.

Abstract

This research aims to identify and interpret the visual signs in the Marjan Syrup advertisement Ramadhan Edition 1444H using Roland Barthes' semiotic approach to understand the message to be conveyed to consumers. The type of research applied is qualitative description. The data analysis process was carried out by applying Roland Barthes' semiotic studies, allowing the observation of three levels of meaning (denotative, connotative, and mythical) in several scenes, visual signs, symbols, colors, and compositions contained in the Marjan Syrup advertisement, Ramadhan Edition 1444H. The research results concluded that this advertisement can be considered an achievement in communicating complex and in-depth messages through visual media.

Abstract

One of the countries that has developed in the field of cinema is Japan. Japan has successfully integrated elements of local culture and tradition into movie production. Japan is also famous for the creation of special effects, especially in today's modern action genre known as Tokusatsu. One of the movies that raised the Tokukatsu genre is Kamen Rider Black Sun. It is a Japanese superhero franchise Tokusatsu genre film released on October 28, 2022 by Ishimori Productions and Toei Company. The movie was directed by Kazuya Shiraishi. Based on 704 votes on IMDb.com. The movie was released in celebration of 50 years of Kamen Rider and 35 years of Kamen Rider Black. This success was based on a complex story and was well received by audiences and film critics in Japan and also abroad, including Indonesia. Visual analysis is used in this movie to interpret important elements by revealing meanings and messages that will influence the audience's understanding, especially by raising social issues. By promoting this film, it aims to raise awareness and empathy towards the phenomenon of discrimination and racism towards others. With the semiotic analysis of Roland Barthes, the film Kamen Rider Black Sun can understand the meaning of the visual signs conveyed in the film, so that this film becomes an important lesson in creating a fair society regardless of one's race, ethnicity and background.

Abstract

The animated film "Puss in Boots : the Last Wist" is one of the most successful animated films in 2022, this is thanks to the presence of the antagonist, Death, which is the main attraction in this film. The visuals displayed by the antagonist character design have a deep meaning, making it an object of research that can inspire and provide insights related to character creation. The purpose of the research is to analyze the visual meaning of attributes, character types, and gestures as well as the process of creating the main antagonist character "Death" in the animated film "Puss in Boots: the Last Wish". This research uses a descriptive method that will be described by using the manga matrix theory developed by Hiroyoshi Tsukamoto to design new characters with 3 main variables, namely matrix form, matrix costume, and matrix personality. The results of this study show that character creation requires a long process such as determining the basic role and concept of the character, then analyzing references taken from history, myths and folklore related to the character. This element is very important because it will be the beginning of the visual design of the character which is then strengthened by visual depictions through the design of clothes, attributes and weapons used, as well as the giving of personality to the character that makes it more lively. In conclusion, the creation of a character not only requires attractive character visuals, but also covers various aspects that are not few, to produce iconic characters and are liked by the audience.

Abstract

Advertisements are an effective promotional medium to capture audience attention, especially through engaging visual approaches. One unique advertisement is Pocari Sweat Bintang SMA 2019, which employs 2D anime-style animation as a visual communication strategy. This study aims to analyze how the invitation element in the advertisement is visualized through storyline, scenes, and characters. Using Roland Barthes' semiotics analysis, this research explores the signs within the advertisement at both denotative and connotative levels. The findings reveal that Pocari Sweat effectively invites its audience through visuals that depict enthusiasm, freedom, and togetherness. By utilizing bright colors, movement symbolism, and character interactions, this advertisement successfully delivers a strong invitation message to participate in the Bintang SMA talent competition.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the meanings embedded in the Fana Coffee logo using Roland Barthes' semiotic theory. The Fana Coffee logo features visual elements such as a bean sprout, soft typography spelling "Fana", and a dominant green color. The research adopts a descriptive qualitative approach through documentation, observation, interviews, and literature review. The analysis reveals that each element in the logo carries denotative, connotative, and mythological meanings. The green color symbolizes freshness and health, the sprout represents strength, simplicity, and adaptability, while the word “Fana” conveys impermanence and peace, aligning with the cozy ambiance of the coffee shop. Overall, the logo effectively reflects the identity and vision of Fana Coffee as a comfortable, natural, and welcoming place for visitors. This study is expected to provide insights for designers in creating meaningful and brand-relevant logos.
