Abstract

The paper offers a close textual analysis of Henry James’ classic novella, Daisy Miller. The analysis explores the conflict of desire the female protagonist is exposed to in the society, and how the woman’s desire is linked with death. James’ Daisy Miller depicts the struggle of a woman to articulate and demonstrate her experience of ideal lifestyle in a foreign environment. In this realist fiction, the female protagonist is seen in constant conflict with both the men and women surrounding her as she sticks to the path she feels is ideal for her. She finds herself battling with a new culture different from her own. At the end, the research concludes that Daisy’s death in the novel is an attempt by the author to achieve a “pure” work of art. His motive is clear: he does not intend to deviate from what his society considers pure literature. His attitudes on gender and sexuality seem largely to conform to the accepted social structures of his time.

Abstract

Effective data analysis reflects an improved approach to data collection, cleaning, and screening. However, very few studies reported information on the techniques used in cleaning and screening their collected data, leading to questionable final results and interpretations, especially among university students. To address this issue, the current study examines the rigorous data collection, cleaning and screening processes for data normalization among university students in Nigeria. Using a multi-stage research methodology, 367 adapted survey instrument items were administered using Snowballing. Finally, 365 were retrieved from the respondents. Missing data were all replaced using the Series Mean (SMEAN), and outliers were appropriately addressed through z-score values and chi-square criteria. Descriptive statistical measures were used to examine the dataset and presented in several tables, a histogram, a scatterplot and a normal probability plot. The collected, cleaned, and screened data were found to have a normal distribution, helping analyze and understand the parametric data distribution, variation, and normalization. The findings provide valuable information for university students, academics, policymakers, and practitioners to adopt during data collection, cleaning and screening exercises. It was recommended that university students, lecturers, researchers, and research institutions prioritize thorough data collection, embrace transparent data cleaning, screening and reporting practices, and adopt standardized procedures to enhance data accuracy, reliability, and normalization for better data analysis and interpretation of research findings.

Abstract

This study investigates the essential role of Electronic Monitoring and Evaluation (EMAE) in enhancing the elementary education sector. EMAE frameworks offer systematic methodologies for assessing educational programs, fostering accountability, and facilitating data-driven decision-making. This research serves as a case study of the primary education authority in Bauchi Local Government, with a particular focus on their teachers. According to the 2023 Annual School Census, there are 4,226 staff members, from which 367 were sampled using the Yamane formula. The sampling frame was stratified to reach the target respondents effectively. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire comprised of closed-ended questions that were designed and validated, achieving a Cronbach’s Alpha of 0.83. Based on 358 completed questionnaires, the responses were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings emphasize how effective EMAE practices can lead to improved educational outcomes by identifying successful teaching strategies and fostering continuous enhancement. Additionally, the involvement of diverse stakeholders—including educators, parents, and community members—strengthens collaboration and ensures that educational reforms remain relevant and sustainable. The results highlight the significance of EMAE in aligning national education systems with global standards, such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Ultimately, this research underscores that robust EMAE practices are essential for cultivating an effective, responsive, and equitable educational environment, ensuring that all students receive a quality education.
