Abstract

Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) in Indonesian hospitals presents significant legal, ethical, and managerial challenges, particularly due to unclear regulations governing its installation in clinic rooms. The absence of specific guidelines raises legal uncertainties, casting doubt on patient privacy and the hospital's responsibility for safeguarding sensitive medical information. Ethical concerns intensify as the use of CCTV in clinic rooms may lead to potential privacy violations in the absence of clear regulations. This condition certainly poses managerial challenges for hospitals, affecting resource allocation, personnel training, and the management of data related to the CCTV system. Effectively managing this system becomes crucial to balance surveillance needs with privacy protection. Hence, this research aims to explore legal uncertainties surrounding CCTV installation, identify ethical issues, and evaluate managerial impacts. The study seeks to offer profound insights, aiding the development of pertinent policies, ethical frameworks, and effective managerial strategies for a balanced and responsible CCTV implementation in healthcare settings.

Abstract

Promotion and advertising of dental services are increasingly common, especially through digital media, but have not been balanced with specific and adequate legal regulations. Currently, regulations regarding advertising of dental services are still general and spread across various regulations, such as the Medical Practice Act, the Consumer Protection Act, and professional codes of ethics. The absence of specific regulations that specifically regulate the limitations, forms, and supervision of dental promotions raises the potential for ethical violations, medical misinformation, and consumer losses. This study aims to analyze the urgency of establishing specific regulations that can comprehensively regulate the advertising of dental services by considering legal aspects, professional ethics, and consumer protection. The method used is a normative legal approach with an analysis of laws and regulations, literature studies, and comparisons of practices in several other countries. The study results indicate that the legal vacuum in regulating dental advertising can cause legal uncertainty and reduce public trust in the dental profession. Therefore, regulations that are firm, adaptive to technological developments, and in line with the principles of medical ethics are needed.

Abstract

The promotion of healthcare services, particularly in the field of dentistry, has rapidly evolved in the digital era. However, this development has not been accompanied by adequate legal regulations, leading to various ethical and legal concerns. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of healthcare advertising regulations in Indonesia, identify violations of medical ethical principles, and propose juridical solutions for fairer and more accountable law enforcement. The findings indicate that weaknesses in oversight, ambiguous legal norms, and poor inter-agency coordination are the primary obstacles to regulatory enforcement. Additionally, a permissive legal culture and excessive professional solidarity further undermine the implementation of the dental code of ethics. Many advertisements have been found to violate principles of honesty, justice, and non-maleficence, and often manipulate consumer perceptions. To address these issues, this study recommends comprehensive regulatory reform, the adoption of digital monitoring technologies, the strengthening of independent ethical bodies, and the protection of the dignity of dental professionals. Public education and cross-sector collaboration are also essential to building a more ethical, transparent, and responsible healthcare promotion system.

Abstract

The widespread use of smartphones with video recording features has significantly impacted interactions in healthcare settings. Unauthorized recordings by patients, especially during clinical interactions, are becoming more common. Such recordings often lead to privacy concerns, legal challenges, and a breakdown of trust. Some patients use these recordings to demand refunds, threatening to make the videos viral if their demands are not met, thereby compromising healthcare professionals' privacy and creating an intimidating atmosphere that affects care quality. This study aims to examine legal protections for dentists against unauthorized recordings by patients, highlighting the need for clear regulations and public education on the rights and responsibilities of healthcare providers and patients. A qualitative approach was used, involving interviews with dentists to explore their experiences with unauthorized recordings. Relevant legal documents were analyzed to understand the current legal framework, and regulations from other countries were compared to evaluate how different jurisdictions address unauthorized recordings in healthcare. The study found that current regulations in Indonesia, such as the Information and Electronic Transactions Law and the Personal Data Protection Law, provide insufficient protections for healthcare providers. Unauthorized recordings by patients often lead to privacy violations and reputational damage to dentists. More explicit regulations are needed to protect healthcare providers from unauthorized recordings, supported by effective enforcement and public education on privacy rights. Clear legal guidelines and proactive policies can better protect healthcare providers and maintain a therapeutic relationship with patients.

Abstract

Preparing abutment teeth for fixed bridgework presents varying challenges to dental students, impacting their training effectiveness and clinical outcomes. Understanding the most difficult stages can help improve educational strategies. This study aims to rank the difficulty of each stage in abutment tooth preparation using student evaluations, identifying the greatest challenges. A quantitative approach was used, analyzing perceptions of 155 clinical dental students from 2021-2023 cohorts at Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Trisakti, through the non-parametric Friedman’s ANOVA Test. Student evaluations covered seven stages of abutment tooth preparation, identifying variability in perceived difficulty from most difficult to easiest. Results indicate the most difficult stage is proximal reduction (mean rank: 3.01), followed by cervical preparation (mean rank: 3.28), and lingual reduction (mean rank: 3.35). The stages with the lowest difficulty are finishing (mean rank: 5.35), followed by alignment of preparation between 2 abutment teeth (mean rank: 4.85), buccal reduction (mean rank: 4.13), and occlusal reduction (mean rank: 4.03). Proximal reduction is particularly difficult due to the need for high technical skills and precision, requiring accurate space estimation and careful reduction without damaging adjacent teeth. This difficulty is compounded by natural variations in tooth shapes and positions among patients. Findings highlight the importance of refining educational strategies to tackle these challenges, enhancing student learning and clinical skills. This research provides crucial data on which stages need greater emphasis in the curriculum, aiding the creation of more efficient and focused training methods.
