Abstract

This research aims to analyze the types of figurative language that can be found on visual imagery of selected poems by Dorothy Parker. The data research method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method. The research problems are, (1) What visual imagery are used in the four selected poems by Dorothy Parker? and (2) What are the types of figurative language that contained on visual imagery of Dorothy Parker’s selected poems? The data sources of this research are four selections of poem by Dorothy Parker, Résumé, Penelope, The Red Dress, and Testament. The result shows there are fifteen visual imagery that used in the four selected poems and contained five types of figurative language, which are personification, metaphor, hyperbole, simile, and irony.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the types of moral values that are contained in A Midsummer Night's Dream drama by William Shakespeare. The data research method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method. The research data is in the form of words and sentences in the dialog between characters in A Midsummer Night's Dream drama by William Shakespeare. Meanwhile, sorting and noting techniques were used to collect data from the script of the drama. This research uses Nurgiyantoro's theory of moral values. Of the three types of moral values according to Nurgiyantoro, the results obtained from this study show that in A Midsummer Night's Dream drama there are only two types of moral values, namely (1) moral values of human relationships with themselves which include harsh and arrogant, not confident, reckless, stubborn, firm in their stance, cautious, and responsible. (2) moral values of human relationships with other humans include caring, trustworthiness, inciting, and accusing. Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan jenis-jenis nilai moral yang terkandung dalam drama A Midsummer Night's Dream karya William Shakespeare. Metode penelitian data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif. Data penelitian berupa penggalan kata dan kalimat dalam dialog antar tokoh yang terdapat pada naskah drama A Midsummer Night’s Dream karya William Shakespeare. Sementara itu, teknik pilah dan catat digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data dari naskah drama. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori jenis nilai moral oleh Nurgiyantoro. Dari tiga jenis nilai moral menurut Nurgiyantoro, hasil yang diperoleh dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa dalam drama A Midsummer Night’s Dream terdapat dua jenis nilai moral, yaitu (1) nilai moral hubungan manusia dengan diri sendiri yang meliputi keras dan angkuh, tidak percaya diri, gegabah, keras kepala, teguh pada pendirian, penuh kehati-hatian, dan bertanggung jawab. (2) nilai moral hubungan manusia dengan manusia lain meliputi  kepedulian, amanah, menghasut, dan menuduh.
