Abstract

A study was conducted on the Katingan tidal lowland area with hydro-topography A and B. The lowland area has good irrigation capability but low drainage capability, resulting in excessive inundation. This study aims to enhance drainage capability and control water levels in rice fields. HEC-RAS is used to model the hydrodynamics of canals and rice fields. There are three scenarios for improving the water system, namely embankments (1), embankments and pipes (2), and embankments, pipes, and gates (3). In the normalized canals, inundation in the middle of the rice field is more than 35 cm and continuous inundation. This is due to the low elevation of the middle area, which results in low drainage capability. The embankment (1) prevents the tide from overflowing into the rice fields, but the rice fields are deficient in water. Embankments and pipes (2) can fulfill the water need for irrigation but not increase drainage capability. Embankments, pipes, and gates (3) can maintain irrigation capability and improve drainage capability. The water level can be maintained at 7-10 cm at land elevation +3.40 m, but land with elevation +3.50 m has a water deficiency. The third scenario is the most appropriate for controlling water levels in rice fields. Water system improvement in tidal lowlands must be considered to avoid water deficiency. Drought in tidal lowlands causes pyrite to oxidize, leading to increased soil acidity. Therefore, irrigation capability must be maintained to improve the water system on land with hydro-topography A and B.

Abstract

Environmental problems are still the biggest problem and will never end, especially regarding waste. Where Darmaji Village produces 3,373kg/day of waste. With the large amount of waste produced, people do not know how to process or use the waste. There are many ways to manage and utilize household waste, one of which is making it into liquid organic fertilizer. Using liquid organic fertilizer on plants has the benefit of increasing nitrogen in the soil. In this article, we will discuss a Village Community Empowerment (PMD) activity with training material on Making Liquid Organic Fertilizer (POC) by Utilizing Household Waste.

Abstract

To increase food production in the Karang Agung Hilir Swampland requires effective water management by understanding the hydrodynamics of water quantity and quality; however, related research remains limited. This study aims to examine the characteristics of the Karang Agung Hilir Swampland in relation to tidal variability and water quality. The method used is correlation analysis with the variables of tidal hydrodynamics, land elevation, pH, electrical conductivity (EC), and salinity in the rainy and dry seasons. . Tidal influence is significant at the channel estuary but decreases toward the channel’s end. The land in the middle of the navigation channel is classified as hydro-topography A (<+2.00 m), B (+2.00 m to +2.30 m), and C (>+2.30 m). During the rainy season, the pH in the estuary and mid-channel is higher during spring tide than during neap tide, influenced by elevated EC values indicating saltwater intrusion during high tides. At the channel’s end, extremely acidic pH (<4.00) and EC values exceeding 2,000 µS/cm suggest the presence of an oxidized pyrite layer. In the dry season, pH levels in the channel are higher compared to the rainy season due to increased salt concentrations. Water management strategies are needed to enhance acid leaching, prevent pyrite oxidation, and limit saltwater intrusion. A one-way water management system is recommended to improve water circulation and supply, while maintaining water levels above the pyrite layer. This research is expected to provide recommendations for water management in swamplands with similar characteristics to this research location.
