Abstract

One of the efforts to overcome hypertension experienced by its sufferers is to reduce stress and improve their sleep quality. Patients will usually overcome hypertension by taking drugs (which are chemical). Some use alternative methods. However, not many studies have been conducted to reveal efforts to reduce stress and improve sleep quality in hypertensive patients through this alternative method. It is the main reason research is carried out on non-pharmacological efforts to overcome stress and improve sleep quality that is effective, easy, and can be done alone by patients. This study aimed to determine the effect of five-finger relaxation techniques on stress and sleep quality in hypertensive patients in the working area of the Sukabumi Health Center. This study was a quasi-experiment with two groups of pre-tests and post-tests. The population and sample were hypertensive patients in the working area of the Sukabumi Health Center, with as many as 70 respondents divided into control and intervention groups of 35 respondents, each using purposive sampling techniques. The DASS-42 standard questionnaire was used for stress variables, while the PSQI standard questionnaire was used for sleep quality variables. Data analysis using a paired sample t-test showed differences in the pre-test and post-test stress scores in the control and intervention groups and in the control and intervention groups' sleep quality scores in the pre-test and post-test. The five-finger relaxation technique can lower hypertensive patients' stress and sleep quality scores. This technique is also an easy, inexpensive technique that is very likely to be done by hypertensive patients to maintain stable blood pressure and is an alternative non-pharmacological therapy for overcoming stress problems and sleep quality in hypertensive patients.

Abstract

Aims: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of five-finger relaxation technique on anxiety and stress in hemorrhagic stroke patients at Cimacan Hospital. Methods: This study used quasi-experiment with nonequivalent control group design. Sample collection using purposive sampling. The sample was 40 people and divided into two groups with 20 people each for the intervention group and control group. Data analysis using Paired Sample T-Test and Independent Sample T-Test. Results: The results showed that after the five-finger relaxation technique was performed on the intervention group, there was a decrease in anxiety levels (p = 0.000) and stress (p = 0.000) in stroke patients, while in the control group there was a decrease in anxiety (p = 0.000) and stress (p = 0.000), and there was a difference between anxiety levels (p = 0.000) and stress (p = 0.000) in the intervention and control groups. Conclusion: There is an effect of five-finger relaxation technique on anxiety and stress in non-hemorrhagic stroke patients, and there are differences in anxiety and stress in the control and intervention groups. It is hoped that this five-finger relaxation technique can be used as an evidence base nursing on non-pharmacological treatment as a form of independent nursing intervention by a nurse in providing nursing care to help in the process of reducing anxiety and stress in stroke patients.

Abstract

Type II diabetes mellitus (DM) has increased significantly in developing countries, including Indonesia. Type II DM is caused by increasing blood sugar levels. There are various complications both physically and psychologically. Psychological disorders include stress and anxiety. One intervention to reduce blood sugar levels, stress and anxiety is diabetic gymnastics. The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of diabetic gymnastics on reducing blood sugar levels, stress, and anxiety. This type of research uses quasi experiment with pre-test and post-test control group design. The population was type II DM patients with a sample of 36 people divided into control and intervention groups of 18 respondents each using purposive sampling technique. The results of the validity and reliability test of the stress variable referring to the Diabetes Distress Scale-17 were declared valid with r 0.79-0.83 with Cronbach alpha's of 0.921, and the anxiety variable referring to the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales-42 instrument was declared valid with r 0.532 and Cronbach alpha's of 0.943. Data analysis using Paired Sample T-Test and Independent Sample T Test. The results showed that there was an effect of diabetes gymnastics on reducing blood sugar levels, stress and anxiety in the control group (p-value 0.000), (p-value 0.005), (p-value 0.020) and the intervention group (p-value 0.000), (p-value 0.000), (p-value 0.000) and there were differences in the value of reducing blood sugar levels, stress and anxiety in the control and intervention groups (p-value 0.000), (p-value 0.041), (p-value 0.038). Conclusion There is an effect of diabetic gymnastics on reducing blood sugar levels, stress, and anxiety in patients with type II diabetes mellitus. It is expected that diabetes exercises can be used as one of the interventions in dealing with complications of diabetes mellitus. Keywords: Diabetes mellitus, blood sugar level, anxiety, diabetes gymnastics, stress.

Abstract

Background: Rheumatism is a common disease among the elderly that can cause pain and interfere with quality sleep. The five-finger relaxation technique is a non-drug treatment for these symptoms. Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of the five-finger relaxation technique on pain and sleep quality in the elderly with rheumatism. Method: a quasi-experimental pre- and post-test with non-equivalent control group was applied in this study. The samples were 30 elderlies with rheumatism, which is divided into control and intervention groups. Result: There were differences in the pre-test and post-test scores on pain (p = 0.000) and sleep quality (p = 0.041) in the control group, and pain (p = 0.000) and sleep quality (p = 0.001) in the intervention group, and there were differences in scores. pain (p = 0.009) and sleep quality (p = 0.007) in the control group and the intervention group. The intervention group scored better than the control group. Conclusion: Five-finger relaxation causes effects such as relaxation, inner peace, peace, joy, to reduce mental stress and tension, which ultimately causes pain relief and improves sleep quality for the elderly with rheumatism. There is an effect of five-finger relaxation techniques on pain and sleep quality in the elderly with rheumatism. Recommendation: It is expected that the relaxation of the five fingers will become a form of independent nursing intervention for a nurse in providing nursing care for rheumatic patients.   Keywords: Five Finger Relaxation Technique, Pain, Rheumatism, Sleep Quality
