Abstract

National Policy on Education reiterated the integration of India’s culture and heritage with scientific thinking and scientific discoveries. Imparting formal education has enormously changed over the years in India with integration of science education in the curriculum and emergence of the idea of digitalization of education. Scientific progress brings about amelioration of individual and social development. For scientific progress to occur, not only the science research centres should be expanded and developed but fundamentally the schools, colleges and universities imparting science education must be strengthened in quality. This article discusses in retrospect, about the referring to the recommendations of various committees and commissions of pre and post independence period, in attempt to provide a comprehensive picture of development of a holistic education system in India .

Abstract

Urban medians in rapidly growing cities like Bhubaneswar, Odisha, offer valuable yet underutilized opportunities for integrating climate-resilient green infrastructure. Despite facing harsh conditions—intense heat, compacted soils, limited root space, pollution, and water scarcity—these strips can serve as effective microclimate buffers. Given Bhubaneswar’s tropical climate and vulnerability to heatwaves, strategically selecting hardy, low-maintenance plant species is essential for transforming medians into functional, sustainable urban assets. This review analyzes the ecological and infrastructural conditions of Bhubaneswar’s urban medians, identifies essential plant traits for survival in high-stress environments, and recommends suitable native and adaptive species. It also highlights global and local case studies, proposes heat-mitigating design strategies, and explores options such as smart irrigation and modular planting. Emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration, the review positions median planting as a vital component of Bhubaneswar’s climate resilience efforts and suggests pathways for future research and sustainable urban greening policies.

Abstract

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 marks a significant turning point in India's early childhood education landscape. Recognizing the critical importance of the formative years (ages 3–8), the policy proposes a holistic, integrated, and developmentally appropriate pedagogical approach that moves away from rote memorization and narrow academic focus. Instead, NEP 2020 emphasizes foundational literacy and numeracy, play-based and experiential learning, and child-centered teaching strategies. This review article critically examines the pedagogical shifts introduced by NEP 2020, drawing on contemporary theories of early learning and best practices from global education systems. It explores the policy’s implications for curriculum design, teacher training, parental engagement, and equity in access. The article also analyzes potential challenges and opportunities in implementing these reforms and how they aim to enhance children's school readiness, cognitive development, and lifelong learning capacities.

Abstract

This article examines the sociological significance of "tree marriages," a ritualistic practice predominantly observed in parts of South Asia, particularly India. Symbolic in nature but rooted in real social implications, these ceremonies reflect deeply entrenched patriarchal values masked as spiritual or protective customs. Often conducted in response to astrological beliefs — particularly the presence of a “manglik dosha” in a woman’s horoscope — these symbolic unions are believed to mitigate supposed cosmic threats to future human marriages. However, beneath the veneer of religious or cultural tradition lies a complex system of gender regulation, where women's lives and marital prospects are shaped by rituals that restrict autonomy while appearing to offer protection. This study explores the role of tree marriages in reinforcing gender hierarchies, controlling female agency, and maintaining cultural purity through customary law. It investigates how these practices function as social technologies that uphold caste endogamy, manage inheritance, and safeguard family honor. By synthesizing sociological theory, legal pluralism, and gender analysis, the article provides a comprehensive understanding of how tree marriages serve both symbolic and practical purposes in sustaining patriarchal order. In doing so, it challenges the normative acceptance of such practices and calls for critical re-examination of tradition-based gender roles in contemporary societies.

Abstract

Climate change poses significant challenges to global sustainability, making climate literacy an essential component of contemporary education. Yet, teacher education programs often lack structured approaches to prepare pre-service teachers for integrating climate-related content into their future classrooms. This paper presents a comprehensive framework for embedding climate literacy into teacher education, aiming to equip future educators with the knowledge, skills, and values needed for effective climate and sustainability instruction. The study outlines the current deficiencies in teacher preparation, defines the scope of climate literacy within the educational context, and offers interdisciplinary, actionable strategies for curriculum developers and teacher educators. By aligning teacher education with international sustainability goals, this framework supports the cultivation of environmentally responsible citizens and climate-resilient education systems.
