Abstract

Anxiety is a condition that can be caused by several factors, both internal and external. Anxiety can have negative impacts on individuals. Anxiety can be overcome with several therapies, one of which is music therapy. Music therapy plays a role in releasing individual feelings about emotional problems, creating positive moods, helping with problem-solving, and resolving personal conflicts. This research was conducted using the Literature Review method. A literature search was carried out regarding the Effect of Music Therapy on Reducing Anxiety in the following databases: Science Direct, Google Scholar, and PubMed. Searches related to titles are limited in time from 2019-2023. Basically, music can be preventive to heal sufferers who experience social, emotional, or mental intelligence, and as a non-pharmacological intervention for nurses in caring for patients so they are not too anxious.

Abstract

Background: Schizophrenia is a chronic mental disorder that broadly affects not only the patients but also the caregivers who provide direct care. The high caregiving burden often leads to both physical and psychological fatigue, which negatively impacts the caregivers' quality of life. Purpose: To determine the relationship between fatigue and quality of life of caregivers caring for family members with schizophrenia. Method: A quantitative correlational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted. The sample consisted of 76 caregivers selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using demographic questionnaires, the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), and the Schizophrenia Caregiver Quality of Life (ScQoL) questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using Spearman’s rho test with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: The majority of caregivers were female (52.6%) and aged between 50-59 years (47.4%). Most caregivers experienced mild fatigue (85.5%), yet more than half (55.3%) reported poor quality of life. Bivariate analysis revealed a significant relationship between fatigue and caregivers’ quality of life (p = 0.044), indicating that caregivers with severe fatigue tend to have poorer quality of life. Conclusion: The findings suggest that higher levels of fatigue among caregivers are associated with lower quality of life. Mental health nurses should pay attention not only to individuals with schizophrenia but also develop psychosocial interventions to help caregivers manage fatigue and improve their quality of life in caring for family members with schizophrenia.   Keywords: Caregiver; Fatigue; Quality of Life; Schizophrenia. Instrumen penelitian terdiri dari kuesioner data demografi, the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) dan the Schizophrenia Caregiver Quality of Life questionnaire (S-CGQoL).

Abstract

Background: Low-birth-weight infants are vulnerable to feeding difficulties, hypothermia, impaired growth, and nutritional problems because of physiological immaturity. Infant massage and kangaroo mother care are non-pharmacological nursing interventions that may support physiological stability, breastfeeding, and weight gain. Purpose: To describe the implementation of infant massage and kangaroo mother care in supporting weight gain in a low-birth-weight infant. Method: A nursing case study was conducted using the nursing care process. The participant was one clinically stable low-birth-weight infant with a nursing diagnosis of risk for nutritional deficit. Data were collected through nursing assessment, physical examination, observation, medical record review, and daily body-weight monitoring. Infant massage and kangaroo mother care were implemented according to hospital procedures during five days of hospitalization. Results: The infant’s body weight increased from 2,150 g to 2,300 g over five days. Improvement was also observed in sucking ability and general clinical condition. No adverse events related to the interventions were reported during the observation period. Conclusion: Infant massage and kangaroo mother care may support weight gain and clinical stability in low-birth-weight infants. However, findings from a single case should be interpreted cautiously, and further studies with larger samples and longer follow-up are needed.
