Abstract

Objective: To determine the level of awareness of health workers towards fertility at Tambora Health Center, especially regarding age-related fertility decline. Methods: A survey was conducted on health workers at Tambora Health Center, West Jakarta on May 18, 2024. Participants were given a questionnaire regarding their perceptions and knowledge of fertility issues consisting of seven questions. The instrument has shown good validity, reliability, and consistency with Cronbach's alpha > 0.7. Descriptive analysis was used to describe the data using SPSS. Results: The majority of respondents believed that the most fertile age is 26-28 years (53%). Most respondents believed that there is a slight decline in a woman's ability to conceive at the age of 36-45 years (75%). Twenty-five percent of respondents stated that the chances of success for infertile couples undergoing IVF are 40-100%. Conclusion: Despite rapid progress in the development of fertility in clinical practice, this study shows that awareness of fertility is still low among health workers. There is a need for increased education for health care providers regarding fertility knowledge.

Abstract

Infertility, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), affects approximately 8-12% of couples of reproductive age worldwide. In Indonesia, its prevalence ranges from 10-15%, meaning about 4-6 million couples require treatment to conceive. The incidence of infertility is influenced by various factors, including access to and the quality of healthcare services. Therefore, healthcare providers’ knowledge and awareness of infertility play a crucial role in its management, leading to early detection and appropriate referrals to advanced healthcare facilities. Given the limited access to information and healthcare services in remote areas, educating and promoting early detection of infertility by healthcare providers is essential to improving healthcare quality in those regions. This community service activity aims to enhance healthcare workers' understanding of diagnosing infertility, ensuring that patients are promptly referred for further treatment. The activity took place on Friday, November 15, 2024, via Zoom Meeting, in collaboration with an experienced OB/GYN doctor in Kupang. A total of 27 participants attended, consisting of 20 people from Bakunase Health Center and 7 people from Sikumana Health Center.

Abstract

Adolescent pregnancy is a reproductive health issue with broad consequences—physically, psychologically, and socially. This Community Engagement Program aimed to raise awareness among visitors of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Outpatient Clinic at Sumber Waras Hospital regarding the risks of early-age pregnancy. The activity was carried out through interactive educational counseling led by an obstetrics and gynecology specialist, followed by an open discussion session and the distribution of educational leaflets. The materials covered medical, psychological, and social impacts of teenage pregnancy, using a communicative and participatory approach. Evaluation was conducted descriptively, based on participant observation and documentation of engagement levels. The results indicated an improvement in participants' understanding, as reflected in active participation during discussions and positive feedback on the educational content. This program also produced tangible outputs such as a scientific article and educational materials for sustained use within the hospital. In addition, the program involved medical students (general clinical rotation) from the Faculty of Medicine at Tarumanagara University (FK UNTAR), providing them with valuable experience in promotive and preventive competencies in reproductive health. Overall, this initiative is expected to serve as a strategic step in reducing adolescent pregnancy rates through well-targeted education.

Abstract

Background: Nephrotic syndrome is rare in the normal population but is reported more frequently in patients with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). The pathogenesis is not clearly known, but it is thought to be related to immune dysregulation. Case presentation: We report a case of nephrotic syndrome in a 24-year-old woman with MDS. Patients complain of swelling, foamy urination, paleness, weakness, bleeding gums, and reddish spots on the body. Physical examination revealed hypertension, anemia, petechiae, and edema. Laboratory examination showed anemia, thrombocytopenia, hypoalbuminemia, dyslipidemia, and proteinuria. Abdominal ultrasound showed chronic processes in the kidneys, ascites, and pleural effusion. A renal biopsy showed membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis. Conclusion: Nephrotic syndrome in MDS patients is rarely reported, and its pathogenesis is still not clearly understood. Further research is needed to understand the pathogenesis and optimal therapeutic options.
