Abstract

Researchers often find that there are students' error' in using passive on writing texts. Applying proper grammar in writing recount text is usually a problem for students. The purpose of this study was to clasify the errors and the causes of English Literature students in using passive voice on their recount text writings at Pamulang University. Qualitative descriptive method was used to approach the data. The population in this study are about 200, third semester students of Unpam English Literature Department. Researchers take 20 students to represent the population sample with purposive sampling technique. The instrument is students’ recount texts. Researchers ask students to write down their unique experiences. Researchers collect data, identify data, classify passive voice errors and explain the causes of students’s errors in using passive voice on recount text. Students’ errors are classified into four categories based on the types of errors, they are omission errors, addition errors, misformation errors, and misordering errors. After finishing this research, researchers are expected to enrich lecturer and student knowledge and improve students' ability in useing passive sentences in writing recount text, and to find out the types and the causes of students' errors in using passive sentences in writing recount texts.

Abstract

Writing is one of the activities in learning English that tests students' abilities, especially in mastering Tenses and vocabulary. This PkM aims to improve students' understanding and mastery, especially in using the Simple Present Tense and Adjectives through the activity of writing a simple essay. The type of text chosen as the research media is descriptive text. This is because the Simple Present Tense and Adjective are mostly used in writing the text. This PKM activity was carried out at Sasmita Jaya Vocational School 2 for three days, from 12 to 14 April 2023. The method used in this research is quantitative, referring to the theory by Heidi Dulay Taksonomi, namely Surface Strategy Taxonomy. From the research results, it was found that descriptive text media proved successful in increasing students' mastery of Simple Present Tense and Adjective.

Abstract

The goal of this research is to provide an overview of the types and goals of illocutionary acts that Anies Baswedan delivered in his farewell speech from governorship of DKI Jakarta on Sunday, October 16, 2022. The research being conducted offers descriptive methods with a qualitative approach. Speech serves as the study's primary source of data. by containing illocutionary speech acts on Anies Baswedan's farewell speech from DKI Jakarta governorship. Researchers use Leech's theory and Searle's theory for clarification of the various types of illocutionary acts. The research data is the video of Anies Baswedan which is downloaded via YouTube. The data was collected by listening to Anis Baswedan speak and transcribing the speech into writing. Utilizing trilingual, the veracity of the data is determined. Data analysis consisted of (1) converting the recorded data into written language, (2) categorizing the data based on the type of further investigation illocutionary speech, and (3) analyzing the results. (3) analyzing the data that have been classified, (4) make the conclusion of the research results based on data from this study. After this study, researchers aimed to be able to enhance the knowledge of illocutionary act among lecturers, students, and readers

Abstract

The research aims to discover the types, word formations, and meanings of compound words which existed in song lyrics by Taylor Swift in 2014. The writers used descriptive qualitative method based on the McCharty theory, in which the writers applied it to determine the number of compound words are found in Taylor Swift’s song lyrics. The method described the findings of the research by describing it systematically with qualitative data analysis. In collecting the data, the writers did some steps: listening to the song lyrics of Taylor Swift, collecting the data of compound words, classifying the compound words into the types and formations, and getting the meanings of the compound words. From the data analysis, there were 17 compound words of 5 song lyrics. From the 17 compound words were classified into 11 compound noun (64,70%), 3 compound adjective (17,64%), and 9 compound verb (17,64%). The result indicated that compound word derived from compound noun was the highest.
