Abstract

Abstract

A substance administered to plants with the intention of enhancing nutrient availability is referred to as fertilizer. The goal of this study project was to find a solution to the issue of environmental contamination brought on by the buildup of dry leaf detritus. Compost is created using dry leaf waste as the primary component and EM4 as an aid.EM4 is responsible for breaking down the organic material in leaves. The characteristics of the pre-made dry leaf compost are its blackish brown hue, crumbly and somewhat rough texture, lack of odor, and loose granular shape. The method of research used is library research, or research that is based on printed books and journals that are accessible on Google Scoolar. This type of study is a descriptive analysis that draws on the works of authors who have expertise in relevant disciplines and other studies that are descriptive in nature. Using data gathered through the inductive method, generalizations are then analyzed using one or more initial data sets. The acquired data was examined using a descriptive analytic approach. By turning dry leaves into compost that is more beneficial and valuable economically, this research also aims to strengthen and expand the community's creative capacities as well as its economics. Bright colors are a sign of overly dry composting or a humidity level below 30%. One factor in determining a compost's maturity is aroma. The compost fermentation process will produce a variety of strong aromas. Keywords: Utilization of waste, compost, dry leaves, EM4

Abstract

This study analyzes the effect of air pollution on the growth and distribution of lichens in three campuses in Medan City, namely UIN Sumatera Utara, Universitas Negeri Medan, and Institut Teknologi Sawit Indonesia. Lichens are used as bioindicators of air quality because of their sensitivity to pollutants such as sulfur dioxide (SO₂) and nitrogen dioxide (NO₂). The study was conducted using a purposive sampling method with a path of 1 km at each observation location. The identification results showed the presence of eight types of lichens divided into two types, namely foliose and crustose. Foliose lichens are more often found in areas with good air quality, while crustose types are dominant in locations with higher pollution. This study confirms that air quality affects the diversity and distribution of lichens, making them an accurate bioindicator tool for monitoring air pollution.

Abstract

A material given to plants to increase nutrient availability is called fertilizer. This research project aims to find a solution to the environmental pollution problem caused by the accumulation of dry leaf litter. Compost is made using dry leaf litter waste as the main component and EM4 as an aid. EM4 is responsible for breaking down the organic material in the leaves. The finished dry leaf compost is odorless, in the form of loose granules, has a brittle and somewhat rough texture, and is dark brown in color. The research method used is literature research, or research derived from books and print journals accessible on Google Scholar. This type of research uses descriptive studies and several works of researchers with relevant fields of study. Data collected through inductive methods are then analyzed using one or more initial data sets. The obtained data is examined using a descriptive analytical approach. By transforming dry leaves into more useful and economically valuable compost, this research also aims to develop and enhance the creative abilities of the community and the local economy. Bright colors indicate composting that is too dry or moisture levels below 30%. One determining factor of compost maturity is its aroma. The compost fermentation process will produce various strong aromas.
