Abstract

Abstract. Getting an academic degree at a top university is a dream of a student. When a person decides to continue his or her education, he or she will look for a place of education that he or she thinks is superior. International studies are in demand among students because they can get new educational and teaching experiences and one of them can be obtained with a scholarship program. When someone gets an international study scholarship, this requires that person to adapt to a new cultural environment and carry out an intercultural communication. The purpose of this study is to find out how intercultural communication is carried out by Indonesian students in South Korea. The method used in this research is qualitative with a phenomenological approach with a constructivist paradigm. The theory used is Gudykunst and Kim's intercultural communication theory which means interpersonal interactions that occur with different cultural backgrounds. Following interviews with participants, it was found that effective cross-cultural communication is facilitated by several factors, including active participation in social activities, conducting research to learn about the host country, respecting cultural norms and others' rights, the presence of supportive facilities such as language schools provided by scholarship programs, and active involvement in campus activities. Abstrak. Mendapatkan gelar akademik di suatu universitas unggulan merupakan sebuah cita-cita dari seorang mahasiswa. Ketika seseorang memutuskan untuk terus melanjutkan jenjang pendidikannya, maka dia akan mencari sebuah tempat pendidikan yang menurutnya unggul. Studi internasional diminati oleh para kalangan mahasiswa karena mereka bisa mendapatkan pengalaman pendidikan dan pengajaran yang baru dan salah satunya bisa didapatkan dengan program beasiswa. Ketika seseorang mendapatkan beasiswa studi internasional, hal ini mengharuskan seseorang tersebut untuk beradaptasi dengan lingkungan budaya baru serta melakukan sebuah komunikasi antar budaya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana komunikasi antar budaya yang dilakukan oleh mahasiswa Indonesia di Korea Selatan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi dengan paradigma konstruktivis. Teori yang di pakai adalah teori komunikasi antar budaya Gudykunst and Kim yang berarti interaksi antarpribadi yang terjadi dengan latar belakang kebudayaan yang berbeda. Setelah melakukan wawancara dengan narasumber, hasil yang didapatkan ialah komunikasi antar budaya yang dilakukan dapat berjalan dengan efektif didorong oleh beberapa faktor diantaranya ialah dengan aktif berkegiatan sosial, melakukan riset untuk mencari tahu mengenai negara yang dituju, menghormati budaya dan hak orang lain, adanya fasilitas pendukung yakni sekolah Bahasa yang disediakan oleh program beasiswa serta aktif berkegiatan di kampus.

Abstract

This research is to investigate the process of Students' English pronunciation in TikTok application for the tenth grade students’ of MA Negeri 2 Kota Serang, by using tongue twister technique. The subject of this research involves 60 students’ as sample among tenth class of MA Negeri 2 Kota Serang, year 2021 as population. This study employed a quantitative methodology. Pre-test and post-test techniques were used in this study's quasi-experimental design with two classes, the experimental class and the control class. According to the calculation's findings, t0 had a value of 6,7 and 58 degrees of freedom. In this study, the level of significance for the levels of 5% and 1% was 1,68 for df 58 and 2,4 for df 58, respectively. These values were shown in the table of significance. When comparing students' English pronunciation in the TikTok application with and without the tongue twister technique, the results, when compared to the test's criteria, showed a significant difference. Therefore, tongue twisters are useful and suitable to improving students' English pronunciation in the tenth grade at MA Negeri 2 Kota Serang.
