Abstract

This study examines the integration of two data validation approaches—sanad criticism from the Islamic scholarly tradition and triangulation from modern social research methodologies—within the context of socio-religious research. Sanad criticism emphasizes the verification of information through assessing the credibility and continuity of the chain of transmission, whereas triangulation validates data by cross-checking sources, methods, and perspectives. Although these approaches originate from distinct epistemological frameworks, they share fundamental principles of data validation, including source transparency, methodological rigor, and informational reliability. Employing an interdisciplinary descriptive qualitative approach, this study proposes an integrative model termed the Layered Validation Tool Method (Sanad–Triangulation), which synthesizes the historical rigor and ethical foundations of sanad criticism with the empirical strengths of triangulation. This model offers a holistic, credible, and context-sensitive data validation framework that is particularly relevant for socio-religious research in pluralistic Muslim societies. The findings are expected to contribute significantly to the advancement of religious studies methodology and to serve as a strategic reference for scholars seeking to develop more robust and adaptive approaches to data validity.
