Abstract

Background: A brain tumor is a tumor that is most known for its dangerous progressivity. Brain tumor is classified into primary and metastatic types. One of the management for primary brain tumors is radiotherapy. This study aims to elucidate the medical profiles and Karnofsky Performance Status (KPS) of patients with primary brain tumors with radiotherapy in Hasan Sadikin General Hospital based on a hospital-based cancer registry (HCBR) in 2020-2021.Methods: This study was conducted with a descriptive method. The sampling technique was total sampling using 22 medical records of primary brain tumor patients with radiotherapy from the year 2020-2021 which were registered in HCBR at the Radiotherapy Department, Hasan Sadikin General Hospital. Results: Primary brain tumor patients with radiotherapy were mostly from the 25-34 years age group (27.3%), male gender (68.2%), with a regional origin of West Priangan (45.5%), the chief complaint was headache (45.5%), with topography presence of overlapping lesion in the brain (ICD-O code C71.8) (27.3%), histopathological type is predominantly astrocytic tumors (22.7%), majority of patients underwent subtotal resection (59.1%), adjuvant radiation therapy was mostly indicated (40.9%), with all patients using Linac external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) radiation device. Almost all patients can finish radiotherapy (95.5%). The waiting time for radiotherapy is mostly 5-6 weeks (31.8%).Conclusions: Primary brain tumor infects more men than women, with a predominant age group of 25-34 years old. Histopathological findings are mostly of the astrocystic tumor type with most chief complain being headaches. The most common treatment is subtotal resection followed by radiotherapy using EBRT Linac with a positive one-year-postradiotherapy prognosis.

Abstract

Background: A laryngeal cancer diagnosis is often in the advanced stage, while the screening has not much done at this time. Studies on laryngeal cancer that uses radiotherapy are also still difficult to find, especially in Indonesia. Purposes: This study aimed to describe patients' profiles with laryngeal cancer who received radiotherapy treatment in the 2018 to 2019 period. Methods: This research was a descriptive quantitative with a cross-sectional study conducted at Radiotherapy Department, Hasan Sadikin General Hospital. Results: The patient's medical record was collected, and 38 patients with laryngeal cancer were found. Most of the patients are male (86,8%), ranging from age 51-60 (55,3%), work as staff office/traders (21,1%), and have a smoking history (52%). The chief complaint is often in the form of hoarseness (76,3%), the location of the cancer is No Other Specified (31,6%), most of the cells were squamous cell carcinoma (86,8%), and the stage was mainly in stage IV (60,5%). Surgery with radiotherapy is the most common management (50%), and surgery that is commonly used is total laryngectomy (36,8%). Some patients also have a tracheostomy before management (36,8%). Radiotherapy is more often for adjuvant purposes (52,6%). Conclusions: Laryngeal cancer is still uncommon, but we need to increase awareness and screening because of the advanced stage that more commonly occurs.

Abstract

Background: Brain tumors, marked by abnormal cell divisions, are classified as primary or secondary based on their origin. Effective management involves a comprehensive strategy, with radiotherapy employed as definitive, adjuvant, or palliative treatment. This study aimed to examine the clinical responses of primary brain tumor patients receiving radiotherapy at RSUP Dr. Hasan Sadikin, Bandung, from 2020 to 2022.Method: This descriptive research utilized total sampling, including 19 medical records of primary brain tumor patients who underwent radiotherapy at Hasan Sadikin Bandung Central General Hospital between 2020 and 2022.Results: Primary brain tumor patients undergoing radiotherapy were primarily aged 0-18 years (47.4%), predominantly female (63.2%), and from the West Priangan region (36.8%), with headaches as the chief complaint (47.4%). Tumor grading was evenly distributed among grades 1, 3, and 4 (26.7% each), with the main anatomical locations in the temporal lobe and cerebellum (33.3% each). Histopathologically, astrocytoma and medulloblastoma were most common (21% each), and the majority received adjuvant radiation therapy (57.9%), primarily via Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) (68.4%). All patients received doses ≤ 2 Gy per fraction (100%), with most receiving 20 fractions (94.7%). The mean time to start radiotherapy was 44.37 ± 22.25 days, and the mean duration was 88.11 ± 21.32 days post-diagnosis. Tumor size decreased from 4.33±1.66 cm before treatment to 1.28±1.74 cm afterward, with 50% of patients achieving a complete clinical response. Conclusion: Children and adolescents (0-18 years) from West Priangan, primarily females, made up the majority of primary brain tumor patients receiving radiotherapy. Headache was the most common symptom, with tumors mostly in the temporal lobe and cerebellum. Astrocytoma and medulloblastoma were the dominant histopathological types. Patients primarily underwent IMRT, with doses ≤ 2 Gy per fraction, often over more than 20 fractions. Radiotherapy lasted between 44 and 88 days, significantly reducing tumor size, and most patients had a complete response.

Abstract

Background: Rectal cancer is a type of malignancy that occurs in the rectum. One of the many options of therapy for rectal cancer includes radiotherapy. This research was done to learn about the profile of rectal cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy at Dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital from 2016 until 2021. Methods:  A retrospective descriptive study that uses data obtained from patient’s medical records from Dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital from 2016 until 2021. The sampling technique used is total sampling from 109 data of rectal cancer patients who underwent radiation therapy in Dr. Hasan Sadikin from 2016 until 2021 Results: : From all 109 rectal cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy, the most often patients found have the age group of 40-49 years old (28.4%), females (50.5%), are mostly found from Priangan area (65.1%), have the chief complaint of a problem with defecating (51.3%), at stage III (36.7%), and have previously received operative management from their previous institutions (42.2%). The patients are mostly undergoing radiotherapy for curative indications (68.8%) and most have a waiting time of more than six weeks before obtaining radiotherapy (61.4%). Conclusions:  Cases of rectal cancer in radiotherapy patients in Dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital from the year 2016 to 2021 are seldom compared to other types of cancer and mostly occur in patients aged 40 to 49 years old. Most of the patients come for a curative reason and must wait for more than six weeks before obtaining radiation therapy. Further research may be performed to find the most effective method of giving curative radiotherapy as well as the time given in the hope of making radiotherapy planning more effective in the future.
