Abstract

The use of digital technologies such as applications and websites can be seen at almost every level of education today. However, the main problem in pursuing the goal of teaching English is the imbalance between the material being taught and the time to teach the material. In the English language, there are certain skills that need to be mastered, particularly in the area of writing.   One important aspect of writing skills is the ability to compose report texts, which is deemed essential for students. The primary objective of this article is to explore how students perceive the use of Padlet as a tool to enhance their report writing skills. The research methodology employed for this study is descriptive qualitative in nature. The qualitative information gathered from a survey conducted among students regarding their opinions on using Padlet for improving writing skills was analyzed. Questionnaires and interview guidelines served as the research tools. The questionnaire results were analysed in terms of percentages and then combined with insights from the interviews to create narrative summaries. The participants exhibited positive attitudes towards utilizing Padlet for writing report texts. Additionally, they highlighted the opportunities that Padlet offers for students to enhance their English skills, particularly in collaborative writing activities.

Abstract

This study investigated ELT students in one of the universities in Indonesia’s perspective on their reading comprehension skills according to the aspects on Barrett’s Taxonomy. There are five aspects such as literal comprehension, reorganization, inferential comprehension, evaluation, and appreciation. This study also investigated what reading comprehension they need to study the most. The participant of this study is 36 students from ELE 2021 cohort. Their perception is based on their extensive reading activity using the stories in XReading website. The quantitative survey design is employed in this study and the researcher distributed a questionnaire as an instrument for this study. The researcher calculated the frequency of distributions and percentages, then described and summarized the result of the data analysis in the form of narratives. The study shows that the participants of this study had positive responses towards the use of the stories in XReading website for practicing their reading comprehension skills. Based on the responses given by the respondents, most of them agreed that XReading helps them to practice those five reading comprehension aspects based on Barrett’s Taxonomy. This study shows that XReading website is recommended for the educators who want their students to practice reading comprehension aspects and for the students who want to practice the reading comprehension aspects independently.

Abstract

Many readers appreciate Eldorado for its narrative appeal, yet the deeper philosophical challenges it raises about humanity’s pursuit of fulfillment often remain overlooked. This study offers a literary analysis of Edgar Allan Poe’s Eldorado, focusing on how the poem portrays human ambition, mortality, and the emotional progression associated with the pursuit of idealized goals. Using a literary analysis approach, the research examines Poe’s use of symbolism, imagery, tone, and poetic structure to explore the knight’s lifelong search for the mythical Eldorado as a metaphor for humanity’s quest for fulfillment and success. The analysis finds that the poem’s symbolic contrasts, rhythmic patterns, and tonal transitions collectively illuminate the psychological and philosophical dimensions embedded in the knight’s journey. In addition, the study situates Eldorado within the broader context of Poe’s writing, emphasizing its alignment with recurring themes in his literary canon, particularly the struggle between idealism and the limitations of human existence. The implications of this research highlight the poem’s continued relevance for literary scholarship and its value for educational and interdisciplinary applications, especially in discussions of ambition, identity, and life transitions. Overall, this study demonstrates that Eldorado functions not only as a narrative of quest but also as a contemplative exploration of hope, disillusionment, and the boundaries of human desire.
