Abstract

This study aims to find out the use of Cake Application in improving the students' pronunciation skills at the nine grade of SMP Unismuh Makassar.This research used quantitative research with a pre-experimental approach. The researcher gave pre-test to the students, and then the researcher gave the students’ treatment using Cake Application. After giving treatment, researcher gave post-test to the students. The population in this study were students of the class IX SMP Unismuh Makassar. The sample of this research was the students of the class IX.A, included 33 students.The result showed that the t-test value was higher than t-table value. The t-test value of pronunciation is greater than t-table (8.21>2.03693). It was concluded that the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted. That means there were significant differences students' pronounciation skill before and after using the Cake Application. The research conducted shows that the use of Cake Application on students’ pronunciation skills was effective.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out students’ speaking skill through films with the fun English teaching method at SMA Muhammadiyah Makassar. The methodology of this research was a pre-experimental method. The subjects of this research were the tenth-grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah Makassar. The research instrument for data collection used in this research was the test to determine students’ speaking skill before and after treatment.  The result of this research showed that the t-test value was higher than t-table value. The t-test value of speaking skill is greater than t-table (-14.749>2.160), and the mean score of the students’ post-test (75.64) is higher than the mean score of the students’ pre-test (50.14), the mean score increased by about 25.5 points. The mean score of the post-test is higher than the mean score of the pre-test. It means that the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected while the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted. In other words, there is significant difference between the result of the pre-test and post-test in growing students’ speaking skill. Based on the findings, the researcher concluded that the films with the fun English teaching method grew students’ speaking skill.

Abstract

This research aimed at finding out Guru Penggerak and non-penggerak teacher perception on the implementation of problem-based learning in English language teaching. The method of this research was case study. Data of the research were collected through observation and interview. This research was conducted at SMA Negeri 8 Makassar with two teachers as a subject. The subject was divided into Guru Penggerak and non-penggerak teacher. The techniques of data analysis were data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The findings of this research showed that in syntactically implementing Problem-based learning is the same between the Guru Penggerak and non-penggerak teacher. But individually as teachers there is a distinction between Guru Penggerak and non-penggerak teacher in teaching process. Guru Penggerak tends to give freedom to her students to collaborate, creatively, and express their ideas. While non-penggerak teacher tend to focus more on achieving the learning objective based on lesson plan. In addition, the distinguishes between Guru Penggerak and non-penggerak teacher is their difference perceptions in implementing problem-based learning. Different experiences, teaching method and point of view very visible from the teachers.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the types of information and communication technology (ICT) used by teachers to teach English at SMK Negeri 2 Makassar and the level of use of information and communication technology (ICT) in teaching English. Data was collected in February 2022 from 2 tenth and eleventh grade teachers at SMK Negeri 2 Makassar. This study used a qualitative descriptive method, and the instruments used were observation and interviews. Observation was used to observe and interview the tenth and eleventh grade English teachers at SMK Negeri 2 Makassar. Based on the findings and discussion of this study, the researcher concludes that an English teacher uses two types of ICT applications to teach as the current implementation of ICT in education. These types not only help the English teacher but also help the students not to be boring in the learning process. Based on the English teacher's answer, the teacher said that the teaching process is more innovative and saves time.Before showing material using the ICT application, an English teacher in grades first and second of SMKN 2 Makassar has several preparations, namely the first is the introduction of ICT, the second is to prepare the material using the LCD and the third is to ask questions to students about learning the material.The next finding is that the researcher finds that the level of ICT use for English teachers at SMK Negeri 2 Makassar is at LEVEL 3, namely Pedagogy.
