Abstract

Chicken coop hygiene and sanitation refer to efforts aimed at maintaining the cleanliness and health of the coop environment to prevent the spread of diseases, including contact dermatitis among workers. Contact dermatitis occurs due to direct exposure to irritants or allergens in unclean coop environments, such as dust, dirt, or chemicals. By keeping the coop clean, ensuring good ventilation, regularly cleaning equipment, and enforcing strict hygiene protocols like the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), the risk of infection and skin irritation among workers can be significantly reduced. The goal of this service program is to educate about Chicken Coop Hygiene and Sanitation for the Prevention of Contact Dermatitis in Chicken Coop Workers in Desa Bulan Bulan, Batu Bara Regency. Inadequate coop conditions, such as not being cleaned daily and lack of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), have also been shown to increase the incidence of dermatitis among workers. The accumulation of chicken waste in the coop encourages the spread of bacteria and insects, contributing to the high occurrence of dermatitis. This program highlights the importance of personal hygiene and proper coop sanitation in preventing dermatitis among poultry farm workers. Workers need education and training on the significance of personal hygiene and cleanliness within the coop, as well as regular sanitation procedures, to create a safer and healthier working environment.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to look at the relationship between personal hygiene and cage sanitation and the preval_ence of dermatitis among broiler chicken farm workers in Bulan Bulan Village, Limapuluh District, Batu Bara Regency. This study used a cross-sectional design, with a sample size of 50 randomly selected respondents. Data collection methods or procedures are tools that researchers might employ to gather information. There are numerous data collection methods, including observation and measurement. Dermatitis occurred in 33 (66.0%) of the 36 respondents who did not maintain personal hygiene, while only 6 (12.0%) of the 14 respondents who did. Statistical analysis with the chi-square test revealed a p value of 0.001, demonstrating a significant link between personal hygiene and the occurrence of dermatitis. Cage conditions that are less than ideal, such as not cleaning every day and not employing sufficient personal protective equipment (PPE), have also been shown to raise the incidence of dermatitis in workers. The accumulation of chicken droppings in chicken coops promotes the spread of bacteria and insects, contributing to high incidence of dermatitis. This study revealed that proper personal hygiene and cage sanitation are critical to preventing dermatitis in chicken farm workers. Workers require education and training on the importance of personal hygiene and cleanliness in the cage, as well as regular implementation of sanitation measures to ensure a healthier and safer work environment.

Abstract

Efforts in occupational safety and health (OSH) are directed at preserving workers' overall well-being, encompassing physical, mental, and social aspects. Illnesses that develop due to specific job roles or the working environment are categorized as occupational diseases. One common issue is visual impairment, which may emerge when the eyes are forced to work beyond their capacity in unfavorable visual conditions, leading to a decline in sight function. This research investigates the factors that may lead to vision problems among welders employed at PT Milano, situated in Torgamba District, South Labuhan Batu Regency. The study employs a qualitative approach, involving all 30 workers at the company, selected using a total sampling method. Data on visual health were obtained through interviews and questionnaire-based assessments. Findings from the Chi-Square statistical test revealed a meaningful relationship between the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and work duration with incidents of visual impairment. PPE usage (p = 0.008; α = 0.05; OR = 26.654) and years of service (p = 0.001) showed significant associations. However, variables like age (p = 0.513), duration of employment (p = 0.729), and overall work experience (p = 0.337) did not show a statistically significant link. To help prevent visual health problems and minimize work-related illnesses, the use of proper personal protective gear is strongly encouraged for all workers in welding operations.

Abstract

Unsafe behavior in the workplace remains a major factor contributing to occupational accidents across industrial environments. Such behavior includes neglecting operational standards, using personal protective equipment (PPE) incorrectly, performing work hastily, or lacking sufficient alertness while carrying out tasks (Istih, 2017). Data reported by the Japan Industrial Safety and Health Association (JISHA) indicate that every year approximately 10,000 fatal incidents and more than two million workplace injuries occur in the United States, causing economic losses estimated at over 65 billion USD. In Indonesia, the Employment Social Security Agency (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, 2022) recorded 35,291 occupational accident cases in 2020, which accounted for about 42.2% of all cases in West Java Province. These figures underscore the urgent need for effective and structured Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) implementation in various industrial sectors. This study investigates the relationship between workplace supervision and OSH training with unsafe work behavior among employees at PT. Prima Abadi Jaya Medan in 2023. The research applies a quantitative analytical design with a cross-sectional framework, observing conditions at a single point in time. The study population consisted of 120 workers, from which 51 respondents were chosen according to specified inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were collected through a pre-tested structured questionnaire that met validity and reliability standards. Analytical techniques involved univariate and bivariate assessments using the Spearman rank correlation test, followed by linear regression through the enter method. The statistical analysis confirmed significant associations between supervision (p < 0.001) and OSH training (p < 0.005) with unsafe work behavior. The results indicate that both variables significantly influence unsafe actions, with supervision emerging as the most dominant factor in reducing unsafe practices at PT. Prima Abadi Jaya Medan.
