Abstract

The LGBTQ+ phenomenon has been increasingly spreading in society lately, especially on social media, where campaigns and support for the normalization of this phenomenon are easily found, even among the majority Muslim population in Indonesia. However, based on Islamic teachings, such behavior is considered deviant and should be condemned. One of the efforts to contain the spread of this phenomenon is carried out by the Instagram account @taulebih.id, an Islamic sexuality education platform. This research aims to understand the message packaging strategies in the content uploaded by @taulebih.id. The research utilizes Phillip Mayring’s qualitative content analysis method, based on the Tarbiyah Jinsiyah theory proposed by Nasih Ulwan. During the month of June 2022, @taulebih uploaded content related to countering LGBT+ in various forms, including single posts, carousel posts, and reel videos with anti-LGBTQ+ topics. The messages are presented in the form of comics, depicting snippets of daily interactions within families and classrooms. The language used is adapted to everyday usage. Each content also includes references such as journals, books, or articles to strengthen the credibility of the conveyed message. In general, @taulebih takes a stance against LGBTQ+ by delivering firm messages, yet in a friendly manner, and making efforts to embrace those who are perceived as deviating.

Abstract

This article aims to examine the importance of the role of government and society in collaborating, especially in improving society's capabilities in the agricultural sector. In this case, development communication has an important role, especially in the form of participatory development communication and community empowerment. However, technological aspects cannot be separated from development communication. Electronic agriculture (e-Agriculture) has become something that farmers need to do to improve the quality of their agriculture. Since the penetration of information and communication technology, the use of this technology has become increasingly massive, especially in searching for information. This encourages the active role of government and society in providing facilities to support the development of human resources for farmers. In this case, digital literacy skills are very important for farmers to have, starting from searching for information, managing information resources, forming digital collaborations, to efforts to increase digital participation. These skills need to be built wisely so that the use of technology in the agricultural realm can be carried out well.

Abstract

Background: Indonesia is a disaster-prone area, situated in the equatorial zone where several tectonic plates converge, and the Ring of Fire runs through. Indonesia requires an effective disaster mitigation system to minimize risks and losses during disasters. Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) is a non-departmental government institution. Through its mobile application and official website, BMKG actively provides various information accessible to all Indonesians. Purpose: The research aimed to understand how BMKG conducts environmental communication and disaster mitigation through a mobile application and website. Methods: This research is descriptive qualitative using a constructive paradigm. The data was collected using documentation and observation studies. The authors carried out content analysis using Philipp Mayring’s methods on the “Info BMKG” application and the website http://www.bmkg.go.id/. Results: The BMKG application and website cover some aspects of environmental communication, including rhetoric, media, public participation, and education campaigns, delivering a range of environmental messages. They facilitate disaster mitigation by providing information and vulnerability maps for different types of disasters but lack details on regulatory measures and planning for disaster-prone areas. Conclusion: The BMKG application and website effectively communicate environmental and disaster-related information but need to improve coverage, speed of notifications, and include more details on regulation and planning for disaster-prone areas. Implications: This study suggests the need to enhance the platforms’ content and user education. Besides, it emphasizes theoretical implications for communication, public participation, and media theories in the context of disaster risk reduction.

Abstract

Media convergence has resulted in many transformations in religious social dynamics, including the adoption of a 'marketing' approach by the Hijaber Community in Indonesia to promote religious principles. This community utilises a range of social media channels to disseminate these religious beliefs, aiming to enhance their visibility and acceptance among both online and offline populations. The objective of this study is to provide a description of the various types of media convergence seen within the community and analyse their influence on the community's development in the online realm. The study employed a qualitative netnography methodology to examine the social media accounts utilised by the subjects. The data was subsequently examined with the convergence culture hypothesis pioneered by Henry Jenkins.  The findings indicated that the media convergence process gave rise to two distinct types of convergence culture: participation culture and collective intelligence. This type of participatory culture is seen in the uploading of twibbons and the posts made by community followers, as well as the growing number of members in the Hijaber Community. Furthermore, communal intelligence is evident through the use of reels and IG live, which are available for access at any given moment.
