Abstract

Early initiation of breastfeeding (EIBF) is crucial for exclusive breastfeeding success and has many benefits for mothers, babies, and families. Moreover, EIBF also contributes to building the quality of the next generation. This study aims to investigate the factors that determine the implementation of EIBF and its effect on exclusive breastfeeding during the postpartum period. The research used an observational analytic approach with a prospective cohort design on all mothers who gave birth in health facilities in the Beru-beru Health Center working area, West Sulawesi Province in 2021. The research sample included mothers who gave birth in the same area, and were willing to participate as respondents and living in the location. The results of the Chi-Square test analysis showed that the start time and duration of EIBF implementation affected exclusive postpartum breastfeeding, with respective p-values of less than 0.001 and 0.001. This research highlights the importance of implementing EIBF by initiating immediate breastfeeding within five minutes after the baby is born and continuing it for at least one hour. Both the start time and duration of EIBF complement each other in achieving successful postpartum exclusive breastfeeding.

Abstract

Abstract

Background:  IoT-based postpartum alert is the development of a vital sign-checking tool using obstetric early warning system indicators. This is an effort to prevent maternal death during the postpartum period. Monitoring is carried out manually without interpretation and recommendations and is not connected to the Internet. Adding interpretations and recommendations and connecting to the Internet can help mothers and families with self-examination and remote monitoring by midwives or health workers because, generally, mothers are at home during the postpartum period.Purpose: This research aims to create and test an IoT-based Postpartum alert detection tool that has been developed. Methods: This research is R&D, divided into five stages: collecting information through literature study, product/model design, design validation, design revision, and small-scale product/model testing. Results:  An IoT-based early postpartum detection tool with a portable design has been created. The test results are based on the Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) classification in the area under the ROC curve, which shows that the tool has an outstanding category with an accuracy level of 90%.Conclusion: The IoT-based postpartum emergency detection alarm is a vital sign measuring tool that can interpret and recommend signs and connect to health workers using internet features. The measurement and interpretation results are sent to the cloud system to provide recommendations, data storage, and notification alarms to health workers.

Abstract

Background: Sanitary pads are essential for postpartum mothers to accommodate lochia and prevent infection in perineal wounds. Binahong leaves (Anredera cordifolia) contain flavonoids with antiseptic, antioxidant, and analgesic properties that promote wound healing by inhibiting microbial growth and reducing inflammation. However, research on the use of sanitary pads infused with Binahong leaf extract for perineal wound healing remains limited. Objective: This study investigates the effectiveness of Binahong leaf extract sanitary pads in accelerating postpartum perineal wound healing. Methods: A quasi-experimental study with a post-test-only randomized control group design was conducted at the Poasia Health Center, Kendari City. The study included postpartum mothers meeting specific inclusion and exclusion criteria, with a total sample of 34 participants (17 intervention, 17 control). The intervention group used Binahong leaf extract sanitary pads four times daily, while the control group relied on standard dry wound care. The intervention lasted seven days, and wound healing was assessed using the REEDA scale on days three, five, and seven. Results: The findings demonstrated a significant effect of Binahong leaf extract sanitary pads on perineal wound healing. The intervention group (2.52 ± 0.87) experienced faster wound recovery than the control group (5.23 ± 1.67) (p< 0.001).Conclusion: Binahong leaf extract sanitary pads effectively accelerate perineal wound healing in postpartum mothers and may serve as an alternative wound care approach.

Abstract

Background: The Obstetric Early Warning System does not seem to be well known among health workers, especially midwives. One way to prevent maternal mortality, which is quite high in Indonesia, is to prevent delays in diagnosis through appropriate screening, thereby enabling quicker treatment, thus resulting in a reduction in cases of maternal mortality. This study tries to discuss the evidence regarding the application of the Obstetric Early Warning System by showing its accuracy in predicting maternal morbidity. Method: A systematic Literature Review is the right choice to collect the latest evidence. Search for articles through electronic browser databases, namely Pubmed and Google Scholar. This browser was chosen because it was considered to have a more complete source based on the research topic, namely obstetric early warning. The key words used are MOEWS, MEWT, MEWC, MEWS in the period 2013-October 2023. Results: A total of 2647 articles were obtained but only 8 selected articles were discussed because they met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Early warning in obstetric patients evaluated in this study consisted of SOS, MOEWS, MEWT, SI, e-CART, MEWC, and MEWS. Conclusion: The obstetric early warning system can predict maternal morbidity, although the level of accuracy varies. All early warning systems always begin with checking vital signs so the assessment needs to be carried out carefully to initiate immediate action if necessary.
