Abstract

Science and knowledge are two important things to study. Suhrawardi was a first generation of sufi philosophers. Using the hermeneutics method, the author focuses the study on how the concept of science is in the perspective of Suhrawardi Al Maqtul. From the discussion carried out, it was concluded that in the illumination theory proposed by Suhrawardi, one of the methodologies for obtaining high knowledge was to practice known science as corroborated by the postulates in the Quran and Hadith. According to Suhrawardi, to obtain light, man must move to draw closer to that light with science and charity.

Abstract

Abstract

Religious appropriation is a phenomenon that is continually reproduced in every electoral contestation. However, this context has not been discussed comprehensively in previous studies. In addition to responding to the shortcomings of previous studies, this study also focuses on explaining the characteristics, factors, and latent dangers of religious appropriation that occured in the 2024 Indonesian presidential election. This study reveals three important findings regarding the religious appropriation in the 2024 Indonesian presidential election. First, religious appropriation frequently manifests in the context of doctrine, language, and religious behaviors expressed outside the values and norms of religion. Second, cultural, spiritual, and structural factors have dominantly influenced the occurance of religious appropriation in the 2024 Indonesian presidential election. Third, the latent dangers of religious appropriation in the 2024 Indonesian presidential election often leads to intolerance, polarization, and persecution against religious communities even after the 2024 Indonesian presidential election. This study also recommends the importance of further studies that explain the attitudes of both formal and informal authorities in responding to religious appropriation in political contestation by conducting intensive interviews.

Abstract

The corruption case involving Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL) became one of the most widely reported events in 2024, reflecting his prominent role as a state official. This study analyzes how online media frame the SYL case and construct public perception using Robert Entman’s framing model—defining problems, diagnosing causes, making moral judgments, and suggesting remedies—alongside Berger and Luckmann’s social construction of reality theory. This study analyzes the framing and construction of reality in ten articles from Detik.com, Kompas.com, Liputan6.com, and CNBC Indonesia were examined. The findings reveal diverse framing approaches: Detik.com emphasizes courtroom drama, Kompas.com maintains neutrality, Liputan6.com highlights SYL’s integrity, and CNBC Indonesia focuses on violations. These differences demonstrate the media’s role in shaping public opinion and monitoring law enforcement. The study recommends that media facilitate critical public discourse to ensure balanced and transparent reporting.

Abstract

The Indonesian Law No. 5 of 2018 on the Prevention of the Criminal Acts of Terrorism, which is supposed to be the legal protection for every citizen, has generated resistance, resulting in delegitimization. This study aims to analyze the delegitimization of the anti-terrorism law, resulting in public resistance. The data was collected through observation, interviews and documentation studies in the form of the formulation of the anti-terror law. This study shows that the content of the enacted anti-terrorism law indicates a violation of human rights, which leads to delegitimization. The process of formulating the law without the participation of certain parties is considered counterproductive and makes the law less participatory. These things trigger the emergence of community resistance that leads to the failure of the law or the loss of the substance of the purpose of the legislation. As a result, the image of the government in preventing terrorism and extremism deteriorates, which in turn demonstrates the delegitimization of the law. This paper is limited to measuring the potential failure of the enactment of laws that have been passed and does not evaluate the implementation of anti-terrorism policies. Therefore, further studies are needed that focus on testing the effectiveness of the law by involving stakeholders.
