Abstract

This research explores distance learning from the perspective of John Stuart Mill's utilitarianism, employing a qualitative philosophical approach for an in-depth and contextual analysis. Using the Research on Actual Problems model, the study focuses on philosophical reflections on contemporary phenomena, specifically the global trend of distance learning. Descriptive and critical data analysis methods are employed, continuously referencing concrete issues in detail. The study examines how distance learning can be viewed as the best method to achieve happiness and benefit the greatest number of people, according to Mill's utilitarian principles. The analysis centres on factors contributing to collective happiness in distance learning, while also addressing potential problems such as the digital divide and the psychological effects of reduced social interaction within the framework of utilitarian theory.

Abstract

Gender-based development in its implementation has challenges along with its characteristics, to be specific in efforts to achieve gender equality. Gender discrimination still occurs in Indonesia. It has become a culture in society which increasingly places women in a marginalized position. In this case, gender-based development is one of the main goals of the country’s development, as stated in the 2005-2025 RPJPN. Gender-appropriate roles need to be supported by efforts to optimize the role of women to bring about active participation in the development and eliminate inequality experienced by women. One way to realize gender-based development is through empowering women in informal work. The method used is qualitative, and data collection is carried out through semi-structured interviews and content analysis on media which that refer to the topic. The data is analyzed using the Miles and Huberman models with data reduction, data display, conclusions drawing/ verification, and given recommendations. The results of this study indicate that gender- based development in D.I. Yogyakarta has yet to succeed in reaching the understanding of the community, especially women informal workers.

Abstract

As individuals age, physiological changes increase the risk of malnutrition, making proper nutrition essential for maintaining health and preventing chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of elderly nutrition programs in Indonesia, particularly the Pemberian Makanan Tambahan (PMT) and Posyandu Lansia initiatives, and to compare them with similar approaches in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and the United States. A qualitative research method was employed using a case study approach focused on the in-depth analysis of policies and program implementation in Indonesia, supported by international comparative literature. Findings indicate that Indonesia’s community-based programs face significant challenges, including low awareness, limited resources, unequal access in rural areas, and social stigma toward the elderly. Comparisons with other countries reveal that successful programs rely on integrated policy frameworks, availability of trained professionals, technological innovation, and sustainable funding. This study highlights the importance of collaboration among government, healthcare providers, and communities, as well as the need for multisectoral strategies to ensure equitable and sustainable access to elderly nutrition services. The findings offer policy recommendations to strengthen nutrition systems for the elderly through improved governance, increased nutrition literacy, and more inclusive service delivery models
